Something to add is that the sky shouldnt just be darker, but also more saturated. Between you and a distant mountain, there are tons of particulates in the air. These scatter and absorb different parts of the light spectrum and lead to a more muted color (in addition to changing the brightness)
@tanie3543

Agreeing with you, I think it's good to have less saturation and contrast the farther it gets
@benblack28

i think she means more saturated when she says darker - like darker blue is more saturated than light blue
@desigreen1916
Жыл бұрын
@@benblack28 totally! I think that's pretty common, but I wanted to elaborate because "darker" can also mean adding black to a color, and some people might benefit from more specific words, I know I definitely did when learning about art and color theory!

I've seen art discussions on this a while back. And also a vid on yt too (but I cant remember which vid it was a long time ago) What I heard tho is that objects nearer to the horizon blend towards a desaturated blue. This is called atmospheric perspective iirc I never took it into account, since understanding color is already hard because there are a lot of things to consider. Right now I'm trying to understand ambient light and man is it a struggle.

absolutely GORGEOUS. That being said it totally depends on what time of day you're painting. Depends on the weather etc. today the sky was lit up dark purple and red while the tree line ( far away ) was a much lighter yellow.

One rule of thumb I use is when painting a day landscape, everything gets lighter towards the horizon and when panting a night scene everything gets darker towards the horizon.
