I always watch your vids on my 55" living room TV (instead of cellphone or computer), and I can say the close ups and camera focus is neat 👌 Painting dark skin is always a feat and FYI I guess people come to these vids for the learnings rather for the amusement so I wouldn't worry a lot about the fun (It's always fun to hear your voice-over tho). IMHO it's some kind of auto criticism thing we painters have: once I've painted something it feels it would look tedious to explain (blog) about that in others' eyes but fact is people who ain't you is getting that content for the very 1st time, while you tackled that many times already (Painting, voice-over, editing...) so fear not. Sorry for stretching that out, but I think the amount of time and effort you put into this well deseveres also your viewer's time. This was a 10 LeBron out of 10 paintjob. Un saludo!

The bigger dropper bottles (for the highlight sauce etc), are those old Vallejo (32ml) bottles or where are those from? The quality of the video/zooms are great. Tbh, I despise painting skin, especially dark. But it's always nice to learn new stuff/improve on ones skills.

I am going to be painting this guy soon and this will be a huge help to me, thanks alot Don. Hey, side question, have you used the vallejo mecha primer Ivory? Is it any good? I am told it has coverage issues which sounds odd since it's a primer. I'm thinking the complainer brushed it on.
@DonSuratos
2 жыл бұрын
Oh awesome! The Ivory is nice! Way easier to airbrush and has better coverage than white. However, I would recommend Mecha Sand Primer. That is a better option than white and ivory. ☺️🎨🎨🎨

(Wrong video, sorry, but I keep forgetting to ask^^) You recommend large oil brushes for drybrushing, so thought I'd give it a whirl. Now oil painting sure ain't something I'm good at, so, what kind of bristles are we talking about? Seems all around here is swine bristles (if you want anything bigger then #8)
@naphaneal

first up, the tutorial is good. And please do a video about the freehand on the cloak. But: Milk consistency is so vague...what milk am I comparing my paint to? Goat milk? Sheep? Horse? Dog? Cow? Low fat? Lactose-free? High fat? Almond? Soy? And also not every mini painter uses AV paints...that means, their paints behave differently, some need more thinning, some less...
@DonSuratos
2 жыл бұрын
Thank you. I agree that milk consistency is vague, but that is the main reason I show my mixes in all my videos. So showing the mixing and even when I get paints with my brush from the wet palette, not clear enough yet? 🧐
@naphaneal
2 жыл бұрын
@@DonSuratos the main problem persists: you're using primarily AV paints (good brand, no question), the majority uses other brands, mostly Army Painter, Citadel, or what have you. Thinning these works different. So saying their consistency should be so and so, is counter-productive. Explain it more by showing how the paint flows from the bristles onto surface. And have others copy it, so they get a feel for the right viscousity for layering, glazing, etc. Sorry, if I sound too aggressive. Not my intention.
@DonSuratos
2 жыл бұрын
@@naphaneal I understand your logic, which is not logical imo. Much like airbrushing,... regardless of brand, even if the paints are lacquers ( different paint type ) one should try to achieve a certain consistency ( painters call it skim milk consistency ). I have citadels, even Golden heavy body paints, and thinning them into a "milk consistency" meaning generally and roughly thicker than "skim milk" for airbrushing and showing how I apply them from the wet palette to the surface of the model remains the same. One should understand what I am saying as I show everything on video. Not all painters show the mixing of paints, the thinning and the detailed application. If you still cannot relate the thinning of Vallejo paints, I guess you should specifically watch other videos with the specific paint that you have. Which in my opinion, regardless of brand, will look the same. 😅
