Im brand new to warhammer and wish i would have seen this earlier! I would have applied alotnof the technique to my Abaddon model that inused the GW tutorial for. I cannot edge highlight to save my life and the dry brush silver strat would have saved me big time. Oh well. Ill know for when i buy Horus! Love the lore! If you did paint him in his normal black, what paints would you use to replace the green???

Oh Andy, I know you're insane. Red hair wasn't the only thing my great Nan brought into the family when she moved from Dublin to Glasgow. We're ALL mad here. That's a lovely job you've done on the Arch-Heretic . I'll probably try and get him when he's more readily available. I managed to get past the old "Keep it until I'm good enough" barrier when I painted the Primaris version of Mephiston the other year, so I'm ready to massacre my backlog.

well technically you don't have to play your Sons of Horus as the bad guys ;). there was a tiny window where they weren't bad yet and then we have to brave boys on Istavaan and all the loyal marines from traitor primarchs who went to Terra and other safe-ish places to regroup and fight back :) I like that about the Horus Heresy, how it isn't just everyone from one side being bad and everyone from the other being good, there's a pretty good audiobook in the Garro saga about that focusing on ships coming to Terra and everyone there being afraid of heretics and accusing the refugees :)

This has been great to watch, I think my models looks pretty good and I prefer to use the stable techniques of just layering, highlighting and drybrushing as as often as possible over glazing etc (don't have enough free time for that lol) and they end up decent, seeing that doing the same can make Horus ascended still look great is really encouraging. Amazing work on it, and really enjoying your tutorials.

While I love people going absolutely ham on centrepiece models like this. Going ham with wet blending, Non-metallic metal, layers, highlights, oil washes and more. I gotta absolutely agree with you. None of that is necessary! You've got an absolutely awesome looking Horus here. Most people indeed go with black armour for him, I would. He'd look awesome leading a bunch of black clad Justaerin Terminators on the table. But the green makes him fit in a lot more with the Sons of Horus as a whole. Whichever colour you go with though, he's all Chaos, all evil and all Horus.

Thank you for this tutorial, as a novice painter - I used both this and another guide to help me paint it to a reasonable standard - great stuff. Just a thought for a future video as there seems to be a 'gap in the market for it' and that is Heresy Mortarion (forgeworld), I'd love to see how you would break him down - and how you'd get the disgusting grimey affect on him.

I wanted a strong colour I figured I could be a bit faster and messier before the drybrush and then after just tidy it up. Either will work so it’s just preference
