Hello Helen - thank you for your touching comments. Bob was a great example of skills and modesty wrapped up in a nice package for us to open. I would sit and watch Bob perform his painting magic and wonder if I had the same spark in me. After teacher training with the Bob Ross company I discovered we all have a spark! It just depends if we choose to fan the spark into a flame or not. Happy painting - Paul 😃🥰😎

Another stunning piece that you brought your unique vision to. This ranks in my top 5 of yours, and the icing on this brilliant, boldly colored cake is the nuanced sky color reflected on the water and softening of the horizon.

Wow, thank you Kenneth. I really appreciate your comments. This seascape painting has been on my 'to do' list for a while. I particularly wanted to show the horizon line changes as its one of my own personal lightbulb moments from years past. I painted that little slip up like I did in this scene ( did you see it ). I 'accidentally' caught the sky with the blue sea color and left it in. I did the same thing years ago. Then painted it out and stood back. I've done the same trick ever since. And I think my paintings look all the better for it. Happy accidents Kenneth - Paul 😃😎

Holy Wow's, Paul - you have outdone yourself on this lovely seascape painting. This is truly a piece of artwork! I dig the colors and unsurpassed detailing you added. The secret brush is outstanding - absolutely perfect for this type of painting. I've watched just about all of your seascape videos, and this one is one (if not the) very best. You are truly an amazing painter - *and teacher.* Best on all of KZitem! Thanks for all you do - you are truly an inspiration! Have a great week ahead, Paul, and thanks again. Cheers, 😉👍🥂🎨🖼

Hey there Steve. Yes, seascapes are a bit of a thing with me. I clicked with them many years ago spending my time as a kid on the beaches around Dorset in the UK. I wish I had more time to paint them. But I also want them to be a short enough tutorial so folks can follow along. I have a lot of paintings that have taken months of work. Imagine the videos ... I'd have to make a series just for one painting! A bit of a snooze fest for almost everyone. - So onwards to the next video. What shall I paint next? BTW thank you for the donation to the coffee cup funds. You must be one of my most regular contributors and I truly appreciate that. Have a great week - Paul 😃😎

I love all of the neat tips… and your secret brush! 😊 I notice how you and Terri get out to do great photography, are you also a landscape photographer as well? I remember learning here from many of your paintings how important photo references can help. I really appreciate all the work you do to put together our lessons. I especially love how today’s lesson shows how the sea and sky ended up shaking hands and WOW did it change the look! It is a very beautiful painting and full of movement and life! Hi Paul. Sorry for writing a day later than usual. It took a little longer with some things. Interesting video from yesterday. Wonderful seascape. He is beautiful. So much detail and so much creativity. I can't describe how beautiful it really is. But I have two questions. Your secret brush, it used to be a fan brush bro 4 if I'm not mistaken about the dimension. It is a creative idea to modify the brush. I tried something similar myself, but it didn't work out the best. Another question is if you have any advice for a brush that could do the illusion of fur or hair. I will need it for future projects. Thank you for your effort and for taking the time to read the comments. I hope to see you in the next videos. As always, enjoy your week and have fun doing what you loved. Have a peaceful week and happy painting.

Hi Angel - your such a sweet person. I don't expect you to be able to always reply on the day of the show or even a day ro two after. Life just isn't that easy right. But I love reading your comments and being able to answer questions if you have any. The old fan brush started as a No. 6 but wore down to a very ragged No. 3 with little or no corners. So I trimmed the sides and left a good amount of straight bristles in the centre. This gives the brush some stability and stiffness. If you trim too many the brush will just be too floppy. Plus the bristles were very hard and stiff so perfect for seascapes. I have tried many brushes for fur. There are specialist brushes which have long and short hairs like a castle wall. I dont get on so well with these. The strokes look too even. But a lot depends on the subject too. Thick fur like a bear I use a dagger brush - another favourite of mine. Fine fur like a cat I might use an old soft synthetic fan brush with thinned paint. This works well but needs care to stop the bristles clumping together. So many factors and you should try some tests to see which works the best. Check out my Meerkat painting from wayback. I love using a technique called dry brushing. I use it all the time for wildlife. Makes the best looking fur with a little practice. Then add the longer guard hairs over the top. Here's a link to it - kzitem.info/news/bejne/xY2g02x6sKRypH4 Sorry for the long message but hope this helps - Paul 😃😍😎

Instead of the liquid clear oil can you use linseed oil? I use WMOs. Thank you for a fabulous tutorial! 👍🎨

Hi SP - yes I've used linseed oil in a few of my videos. But there are a few things to remember. Firstly it drys a little faster and sinks in quicker. I did a Q&A video about some of the alternatives. Have a look and you'll see lots of questions answered - Happy Painting - Paul 😃😎

Hi Paul good morning .. can u please share how u cut your secret brush?
@PaulRansonArt
3 ай бұрын
Hi Lu - no secret really. I just chopped off the two sides of the fan leaving a nice group of centre bristles. I then trimmed them at a angel to make a rough chisel shape. Thats it. It was a very old worn out brush so it it went wrong it was no loss. The brush was already worn out. I have many worn brushes from teaching classes so I have a regular supply. Hope this helps. maybe freeze frame the video will help also. - Paul 😃😎
@Midnightquinn

I am not understanding chisel shape? Angled with shorter bristles on the right and they get longer and longer to the left most bristle, that are the longest?
@PaulRansonArt
3 ай бұрын
@@Midnightquinn yes thats the right idea. If you look at a wood chisel it has a long tapered shape. The same with my brush I used scissors to cut the bristles at an angel leaving a few longer ones at the t😃ip. These are the ones that add the heavy foam and the short ones add the speckles. Try making now with an old cheap fan brush. Happy Painting - Paul 😃😃😎😎
