I'mma level with you, chief, I am not really a fan of the Sentinels. Even by the outrageous standards of comic books, to me, it strains credulity that the United States government would, rather than employ the use of teams of trained federal agents or something, choose to commission a private contractor to tackle the mutant problem with... Big goofy robots. With that in mind, I was quite prepared to skip this release. However... Your video has done a wonderful job of changing my mind! I am pleasantly surprised by the customisation and posing options - building them looks like great fun! - and the paint scheme shown in this tutorial seems actually fairly simple to achieve. Sorastro, you've done it again!

I honestly thought you were going to start with a basecoat of silver (Stormhost Silver / Iron Hand Steel) through the airbrush before going in with the Contrast. But once again you've surprised me by simply sponging gradients of black/grey/white to create the textured effect.... It definitely helped to sell the metallic effect. They turned out magnificently. May I ask how long did it take you to paint the 3 Sentinels? I know there's a lot that goes in the video production aspect as well.

Was the choice to use Contrast paints made to achieve that gritty battle-worn look, or did you have another reason for using it as opposed to normal acrylic paints?
@Sorastro
8 ай бұрын
Hi! Good question! I chose them because they have the combined properties of being both quite saturated, yet also quite translucent, allowing the texture of the underpainting to show through. That being said, thinned acrylic paints could also be used ofc 🙂

Thanks Patrick! It's hard to give general advice with Contrast Colours because they can be used in a variety of ways. But I wouldn't usually expect to achieve especially smooth gradients with them when working over large areas (which in this instance isn't an issue because I'm going for quite a noisy, textured finish).. 🙂

Do you have to clean the airbrush thoroughly each time you use it? I have everything to airbrush, but I don't want to take it apart fully just to clean it after each time. Every now and then is different, but each time sounds daunting and tedious when I can just use a brush and go for tabletop ready.

Hey Toby! It depends how long I've been using it for, and whether I've been shooting primer too, but I do generally do a quick tear down and clean after using the airbrush. It's a bit of a pain, but I'm pretty fast at it now.. 😁
