Thank you for this video, I've recently started painting minis to add to the depth to the experience of my board games. I'm not a very artistic person so my efforts so far have been a basic base coat followed by a shade. This video really helped me, with its paint by numbers format, explore some more advanced techniques and got me wondering how to understand the uses of colour and mixing paints for better highlights, creating s textured look and light sources. I will be attempting green crystals as I have some Citadel tesseract glow but I think I'll leave the NMM till a later date. Thanks again and I'm looking forward to the next Descent video

Absolutely love your videos! Please be mindful though that the skill level keeps increasing, making it harder to follow for other painters. I personally loved your LotR Monsters video where you experimented with Contrast, because the effect was great without using advanced techniques. Most people can’t keep up with smooth OSL and NMM blending.
@Sorastro
3 жыл бұрын
Thanks Danny! I do try to be mindful of that, which is why I was careful to paint Vaerix to a decent table-top standard first quite easily (after the Shades are applied) before presenting the OSL and NMM effects as optional, advanced steps. I thought this would be the best way to cater to the needs of painters of different levels 😀

Hello ! Another amazing video, thank you very much! I will start Vaerix now that I have the game ! This will be my first real painting and there is everything: OSL, NMM... Perfect! And I'm not afraid so much your videos even in English (I'm French and I have an average level of English) give confidence! Thank you very much once again. On the other hand, I have a question about the varnish to fill the gaps : how many layers did you do ? I'm on 5 and feel like it's only just started to fill the gap. 2nd and last question: As many others have already asked: When will arrived all the next minis ?! ;-) (I understand that you had some problems: I hope everything is fine now! ;-) ) Regards

Thank you for the kind comment! Regarding your questions: If you find the varnish isn't filling the gaps well enough you might need to use some Green Stuff or the superfine Milliput instead. I'm hoping to cover the next hero fairly soon, but I do have a lot going on at the moment, so couldn't say exactly when.. :)

Sorastro! I own over 400 paints at this point I'm guessing. I have the entire Scalecolor range and would like to do a few projects where I just use them in order to learn the range and clean up my painting area. You seem to like working with them! Do you think they are best for projects like this where you are painting individual minis with thin coats to take advantage of zenithal primes? I mean as opposed to using them for painting a more regimented army where high opacity would help aid in 'speed painting'. What do you think? How do you decide which paint range to use for which project? Or do you just go for the colors you like best?
@Sorastro

Hi Evan! I think the Scalecolor paints are actually pretty versatile, but it's useful to be aware that the individual colours to vary quite a lot in terms of opacity, so some are great for applying opaque base colours, whilst others are a lot more translucent. I see no reason as to whey they can't be used for both speed painting and "higher level" painting :)

@@Sorastro Pro Acryl are great. Fantastic coverage, nice matte finish, and the perfect consistency right out of the bottle. The bottle caps are a bit irritating but other than that, they are nearly flawless. The transparent set is insane. Glazing has never been easier ☺️

Incredible crystals! How are the miniatures from this set? It looks like they're harder plastic and better quality casts than the older Descent figures. Vaerix here looks to have a lot of detail.
@Sorastro

Thanks Sigurd! I wasn't sure what to expect when I received the minis, but was honestly blown away by the quality. The plastic is nothing like that used in the previous Descent games, and the extra scale really helps with the clarity of the detail too :)

Really useful guide! Thanks Sorastro. Any guide on how much water to put in the wet palette?
@Sorastro

Thank you! I usually soak the sponge thing, place the paper on top (and chase out the creases/bubbles etc), then lightly dab/wipe the surface with some kitchen towel so that the surface is only damp and not "wet" wet. :)

@@Sorastro when you say soak? As in submerged but with a thin layer of water on top? I think I'm under watering mine. The kitchen towel is a good trick!
