I feel better watching your video. I'm doing the same things. My classmate and I were at the review in Miami in November. It was very inciteful and worth every penny. We graduated in December amd now getting ready for boards. Good luck in your career!! I know you have a bright future ahead of you!!

Yes, I’ve heard good things about Chamberlain’s program. I believe the biggest hurdle for most psych NP programs is finding preceptors. So if you can get a head start, I would recommend it!

Wonderful tips for success! It is very difficult to find a preceptor. My clinicals this semester is in forensic psych but I want to explore other areas next semester. Any suggestions for what areas to focus on?

Congratulations on your clinical rotation, that’s great! I would recommend getting as much geriatric and substance use disorder clinical hours as possible. The geriatric population is medically and psychiatrically fragile and the more experience you can get with this population, the better. Also, the substance use disorder population is in HIGH DEMAND! The more you know about substance use disorder treatment the more desirable you’ll be to employers!

@@theblackpsychnp so funny you said substance abuse because my preceptor advised me to consider that for my next rotation..thanks a lot! I also love working with the geriatric population as well their psychiatric needs go unnoticed a lot.

Wonderful job. Happy for you. Do you feel that Chamberlain has good PMHNP Progam?

Hi Nurse Chris, thank you for your question. I spoke with a NP student who attended Chamberlain and she seemed to like it. I believe the more important concept for us all to realize is that any program we attend is going to be what we make of it. If we as PMHNPs take the time to study and master the material, we will be better providers in the long run. Mastering our knowledge of psychiatry will help to advance the nursing discipline and our reputations as APRNs in the community.

Hello, I would suggest you start off by studying the actions of all neurotransmitters. All psychiatric medications are based off neurotransmitter manipulation. This will help you understand the pharmacology and mechanism of actions much better.
