I had cancer in my 50s and knew exactly what I wanted from Medicare. Having had cancer increases the odds that you may get it again. I want care at Dana Farber Cancer Institute and Brigham and Women's hospitals for certain things and local hospitals for routine treatment. A lot of policies don't cover DFCI/B&W nor Mass General if I wanted to go there. My Supplement plan does cover it. On Chemo, I had one chemo infusion session and the billing was $11,000. I was scheduled for chemo every three weeks for six months. I usually hit max out of pocket in January. Modern cancer treatment is incredible. The survival odds for me were 70%. Ten years prior, they were 30%. I have permanent disability as a result of treatment but I can still play tennis and run. Peppermint stick. My bills ran about $750K.

My favorite ice cream is Chocolate Mousse Royale, which I don't believe Baskin-Robbins sells in the US anymore, though I've seen it alleged to be available in some foreign countries. So the difference btwn Medigap and Medicare Advantage out of pocket is about the cost of the MediGap annual premiums. As long as u got a supplemental plan during initial enrollment u could switch to Medigap during annual enrollment.
@Theretirementnerds

Not necessarily. It'll depend on where you live. Switching from Medigap to Medigap or Advantage to Medigap can prove tricky in most states. Switching Medigap to Advantage or Advantage to Advantage is relatively straight forward everywhere.

Yeah, i would bet a cancer policy would be good with Advantage Plans. Cancers often come back. My Mom had her bout with Breast Cancer in the mid 1980s in her 40's and it was treated and deemed successful. When it came back 20 yrs later she was surprised, she was never told it could come back. I used to like the Hagan-Daas ice creams, several flavors. But I eat the whole container and even the pinr-sized was a lot of calories! Then I switched to Talentti brand Gelato of many flavors, often many less calories but still high in sugars. Alas, trying to keep desserts to a bare minimum any more (cancer loves sugar!!!)

With a recurrence policy the build-back period is so long that you're highly likely to have died before the 100% benefit returns, which I suppose is the point. A lot of people die between 65 and 74 (or 67-76, and so on) for a host of reasons unrelated to cancer.
