Nice video! It's very frustrating to me that dealerships and/or manufacturers think it's okay to not get all the old fluid out. Why not use a fluid transfer machine (like BG products) to replace all the fluid. It may or may not be worth it to drop the pan to replace the filter which is typically nothing more than a screen. I am not talking about flushing with chemicals. I am talking about a fluid exchange. Pump out old while pumping in new via the cooler lines. When cooler lines are easily accessible, it is possible to do this without the transfer machine.

Thank you! Great question. Seems like fluid flush machines have been mostly designed for and used on domestic American vehicle in the past and worked pretty good. On European vehicles, it has been known to blow out seals inside the transmission which is a huge problem. If you want to get "all of the fluid" out, best thing to do is this process a couple of times and fully dilute the fluid until its been diluted so many times that it is literally all brand new. Hope this helps! Don't forget to subscribe if you haven't already, thanks!

@RedsVolkswagenRepair Wow! I hadn't heard that but it's definitely good to know. I assumed the pressure was about the same as what is generated by the transmission's pump. I was getting ready to have this done on our 2018 Tiguan. I'll discuss with my mechanic first. It's hard for me to accept that manufacturers are not providing fill holes on top of the transmission in addition to not providing dipsticks. I don't mind the overflow tubes that aid in getting a precise fill level, put not providing a fill hole is just ridiculous, IMHO.

Glad I could help! Real quick though, if i'm not mistaken the cc with the vr6 4motion might have a DSG transmission and not a normal automatic transmission. I can't remember. But if it is a DSG transmission it will say it on your shifter inside the car. Only difference in the entire procedure is that there is a fluid filter that sits on top of the transmission underneath the battery tray that will need to be replaced during the service. Other than that, the fluid fill process is the same. Don't forget to subscribe if you haven't already, thanks!

I had a Jetta once and it had the same kind of gasket. I like that there was no silicone used. Of course there would be too much of a gap for silicone without the gasket. I just would have to be careful where I take it for a change if I didn't do it myself. Just make sure they know no silicone, use *ONLY* the fluid you specify and nothing else, and that they set the fluid level correctly. Too much or too little fluid will destroy these quickly. I am not sure what is worse really too much or too little. Too much and it gets frothed and then it can't pump the fluid and there may as well be no fluid. Make sure never to misplace that fill level tube when it is out of the transmission, they come in different lengths for the different transmissions and unless you know for sure which one you have it may be tricky getting the right one. As cheap as that part is it would be worth having a spare some place safe where you always know exactly where you kept it. I am a little bit annoyed with the design of the pan seeing how far the hole is from the lowest part of the pan. It is bad enough that most of the fluid is inaccessible anyhow

@@chantaiman2591 The DSG transmission and the automatic transmission are two completely different transmissions. Not sure where you are located, but the Tiguans in the USA did not come with DSG, they only came with automatic transmissions. Both transmissions only have one filter. The DSG filter is under the battery tray, and the automatic is inside the transmission oil pan. On the automatic, you would need to remove the pan, replace the filter, replace the pan gasket, and reinstall the pan… if you’re doing the FULL service and not just a fluid service. On my personal vehicles with the normal automatic transmission, I always do the filter because why not (also to clean the magnets inside the pan that collect loose metal partials). But the typical service is just changing the fluid. On the DSG transmission (only in select models in the USA) the filter replacement is required during the normal fluid service. *The DSG transmission is a “Direct Shift Gearbox”… an automated manual transmission with wet clutches*

Got it level on 4 jack stands, dropped the oil, pan, and filter. First off, I only got 3 liters of fluid that came out. (Shifted fine, no issues) Replaced new filter, and new pan gasket and fluid level tube. Did a fill with 6 liters of Liquimoly atf 1200. Got the temp up to 40°C, dropped the drain plug while it was running. Here's the strange thing. I got a steady stream of fluid the whole time, never did get the trickel like you mentioned. I ended up with 2 liters of fluid removed. Is this okay? I don't have a live data scanner. In theory I should be up 1 liter of fluid from what was taken out. What's your thoughts on this? Thanks

Hey, glad I could help out! And thanks for subscribing. Good question. Sounds like you did everything perfectly, maybe just didn’t wait long enough until it trickled out. Here in the states we use quarts so I’m not sure about liters, but I normally put 5 quarts in and it drains out about 1. I wouldn’t focus on how much is in the car though. As long as you have a trickle in the temperature check range, you will be good.

Thanks for the video. I recently bought a 2013 Tiguan that had an issue and all the transmission fluid leaked out. Found a pinhole in the transmission oil cooler - it appears a clamp worn through over time. Anyway, we replaced that part, bought new fluid, gasket, filter etc..from Blauparts and pumped in the new fluid. We had quite a bit of air in the line, but when we got the engine up to temp, it seemed to drain ok until it trickled or stopped. Car drove fine for a few days, now we have an issue when we accelerate hard to take off from a dead stop, it briefly accelerates, then acts almost like it slips and revs very high, not moving forward anymore. I understand the transmission may be bad, but could I be missing something else? Since all the fluid drained out of the system from the leak, is it possible we needed more than 6 qts? We are discouraged at this point. We replaced ABS Speed Sensors at each wheel as we heard it might be those. Replaced the MAF as well, no change. We are not getting any codes or check engine light either. Thanks for any help.
@RedsVolkswagenRepair
Жыл бұрын
Hmmm, no codes in the transmission module? Slipping is usually a sign of low fluid. If the leak was bad enough it’s possible that the torque converter was also partially emptied. In this case it may need more than the 6 quarts normally provided in the kit. Now that you have driven it and probably fully filled up the torque converter, I would connect a scanner and read the transmission fluid temperature. When the level check temperature is reached, pull just the drain plug (leaving the level check insertion tube inside the pan). If only a couple of drops come out, it is low. If a constant trickle comes out, level is good. If the level is low, turn the car off and let it sit for a long while until everything is back to ambient temperature. Hook up your transmission fluid fill apparatus and start with adding 2 quarts. Then perform the level check procedure again. Repeat if necessary.
