Thank you for demonstrating percussion on your chest, leg and stomach. The sounds really helped me as I couldn't understand it during my exam!

genuinely cleared up a lot of confusion, I got a really loud sound for once and it surprised me. I always thought maybe my hands were just too weak

I'm not a doctor but I love the sound of percussion so it's nice having a video that shows people how to do it. :)

Thanks for the explanation, making a better seal has improved my percussion, I’ve got a question though. When you actually strike with the finger is it done with tip or the flat (fingerprint area) of the finger? It’s always looked to me like the tip is being used but I sometimes find it can be painful with my nails digging into the back of my other hand (my nails aren’t particularly long for context).

tip of the finger is better, just try to practice it gets less painful and will start to feel easy after a while. it's just as if you would be tapping with your fingers on a table

Thank you for this! I think it would be really helpful if you could show us how it sounds on an actual patient and the difference between dullness and percussion. I have troubles percussing the upper span of the liver for example as I have difficulty differentiating the sound from the intercostal spaces and when I actually reach the liver span. Thank you for your time!

It is actually not that hard. Try it on you colleague in front of the supervisor/doctor or anyone with experience. As they will guide you and inform you if you missed the dullness You determine the upper edge of the liver, when the resonance starts changing to dullness, it will not change immediately from resonance to clear dullness. In another way, it will be resonance but not as clear as usual(resonance mixed with dullness) Try it many times and you will get it easily

Thank you soo much for this video Doc, great explanation. My nails end too close to the tip of my finger... Even when well trimmed I always hurt my pleximeter finger...any suggestions on that?
