What would you do if you wanted to build Intel in early 2024? I'm itching to build a new PC and really want to go Intel but feel silly getting on the deadend platform. Would a 13700k hold me over until it's time for a new rig in 5ish years? Am I supposed to wait until the new chips in the fall? But then it will be all new motherboards, shaky bios, questionably stable systems for a while...all at a greater cost. For reference, I'm on a 3080 and a (shriek) i5-4590...I need to upgrade now.

I'm pretty happy with my current build. I don't think that I'll be adding anything to it, might go from a 280mm aio to a 360 just to fill the case a little more. However, I've been considering a racing sim rig. I don't have the space for a huge one with 3 monitors and all that, so I'm currently shopping around for a VR headset that's "glasses compatible". I've never been able to get into VR because I've worn glasses since I was in the 3rd grade, and most of them (up until now) have been difficult at best with wearing my glasses. I was told by everyone when building my pc a few months ago that 64gb of ram was overkill and only important for streamers. I instead got 32gb of ddr5 6400mts. Just having spotify open and being in a discord call/xbox party uses 40% of the ram.
@Zxanonblade
8 ай бұрын
If you have ram, the system will use it. Perfectly normal for it to be using 40% ram with those apps open, it's the same for me with only 16gb. The difference is that your computer will be much smoother because it can give more ram to each app, and even just to windows itself.

i’m brand new to the pc building world and looking to build my first pc for gaming and also production. i’m a film student with a focus in editing, so i use a lot of premiere, photoshop, and after effects, and i would also like to venture further into the special effects world in the future. however, i also want to be able to play single player triple a games a high settings, but it doesn’t necessarily need to be at the absolute best. my budget is around 2k. would something like the 7800x3d be suitable for both of these levels of gaming and production?

So for you an Intel CPU would be better because of your Production Work. Also a Nvidia GPU is better for Adobe though it won't be as strong for Gaming. Here's a build for you and everything is available on Newegg. The rumor is the 4070 Ti Super's Price will be 800 and if that's the case if might be a better buy vs the regular 4070 Ti so I would wait to buy the GPU until those come out. Best for what games? For how much money? What is your power supply? I'd prefer a used xx80 over a newer xx60. The first numbers are generation and being API support, but the ending digits are the clock speeds and performance within that generation. The difference between a xx50, 60, up to used xx80 or xx90 is a much larger gain than newer generations.
