I've just finished my first year of university with a first. The biggest mistake I learnt from, is that you should look at each university and WHAT MODULES THEIR COURSES PROVIDE. For example, I do Economics and I looked for "Macro" and "Micro", "Money and Banking" etc. PLEASE for the love of God look at the course modules, they will allow you to take / not take future modules in your second and third year which might have very valuable skills learnt in the modules that can be applied to your job! I'm not a like-hoarder but please thumbs this up so that people can see this because it's a REALLY important piece of advice I feel like everyone should think about in depth!

Can everyone stop giving her hate for being scared of the results day.. People can be very intelligent and top everything and still feel like they did badly and that they are going to fail. It's a fear, a pure psychological fear and when they say that they don't think they will pass even when they end up topping. And trust me I would know, my boyfriend is the same. He is at the top of our class on med school and I see him crying and shaking the before and after each exam because he feel like he did badly but then he does the best on his paper. And I know it can be frustrating when such high yielding people cry about grades but you need to understand they are not being insenstitive, they are genuinely scared and I think we all should try and understand that and not be so insensitive
@Cupcakiiiii

Thank you so much. I am 2 years late but I swear I feel Eve and your bf so much. It's the same for me. I had so many exams after which I seriously thought I failed and all you get to hear from your friends is to shut up bc you'll end up with a good grade anyway. But honestly that does not help AT ALL. It just makes me panic even more bc everyone is expecting me to get a good grade lol

I know this is unrelated, but to everyone reading this please SAVE WATER!! You CAN MAKE A DIFFERENCE! You can save water by: 1) Turning the tap off while you brush your teeth 2) Taking shorter showers. 3) Prioritise: is that water fight really as important as having water for DRINKING and growing CROPS? Many people haven't got clean water to drink, how would they feel if they saw you wasting such a precious resource?

In terms of going with your heart in choosing your uni and not the league tables, I really would say it is absolutely the most important thing. Despite having a Durham and Exeter offer last year, I rejected both and changed to Cardiff, where I’d wanted to go all along, last minute and can honestly say it’s the best thing I’ve ever done. It’s surprising how few industries care about the league table position of the uni you went to; many aren’t even allowed to know where you went.
@izzykate1806
6 жыл бұрын
Talking from experience, it is SO IMPORTANT to go to open days if you are able to! When I was initially looking at unis, based on prospectuses and course content, I thought City of London was going to be the one for me. I went there and I really didn’t like it (no offence to any current students, I’m sure it’s a great place but it just wasn’t for me) and it also made me realise that I actually didn’t want to study what I initially thought. In contrast, I went to Surrey’s open day and was literally speechless when we got in the car afterwards. Don’t just rely on what you read about universities, make sure you go there for yourself and see what it’s like; if I hadn’t, I wouldn’t have picked the right university :’)

The only problem I have with Uni compare is that it’s not great for Performing Arts universities/conservatoires. I barely found any courses that I liked on there. I really loved Durham actually, which just goes to show picking a uni is so personal and the best way to do it is just physically going to the open days. Oxford was nice but very overwhelming tbh. Hey Pastel, there is no limit to open days, and if you're unsure, ring the university, and ask for the admissions department. They'll connect you with someone who will give you a private tour and maybe even let you sit in a lecture to see what it's like. Don't feel so restrictive to conforming to what everyone else is doing. Go at your own pace, and just talk to the universities you're interested in. We'd recommend seeing as many as possible! - Uni Compare

Aimee Vincent it all depends on the university and whether freshers week etc all count as the start of the year to you, first semester at Surrey officially starts October 1st this year, but technically the ‘start’ of the academic year is the last week of September as it’s freshers ^^

My main problem is that I don't have that many options because uni's are so expensive and I definiteley cannot afford them. People who only need to worry about their smarts (which they can control) and not their finances (which aren't in their hands) are more blessed than you can imagine. Knowing you can't have the type of education u want and maybe deserve due to ur financial status is really a struggle P.S. scholarships, grants and loans are not as easy as u think to get.
@alaibrahim8530
6 жыл бұрын
Revision1209481029480909 loans are not as advantageous as you might think. You normally don't pay back anywhere close to what you borrowed. Especially if your an international student where education prices are insane. Just paying off tuition fees will take you forever and you might fall into deep debt.
@alaibrahim8530

Ala Ibrahim you only start paying back loans once u start earning a set amount. Education loans are nothing to be worried of,they're a loan /debt that most people have and it isn't frowned upon, even as an international student, if you really want to go, do it, repayments are small and even if you pay back until you die, its better than failing to get a good job because youdont have the qualifications, don't let your financial position rule our an opportunity for education, especially if youre somewhere like england where anyonr cango regardless of background!!
