Erick thank you so much for this video and many others that you've made. I'm in process of buying a Saturn 12 foot boat. I just purchased a Tohatsu 9.8 with a 15in short shaft. Did I get the right motor? Is the short shaft sufficient for the 12 foot boat? Thank you
@ErickMartinSucre

You're welcome! Yes, you got the right size shaft. Short shaft is for inflatables and small Jon boats

Hey Eric so when I put my infallible boat on my trailer I notice the keel is a little bit off not straight so so I got to take it off the trailer and take the aluminum floor out or can I straighten the keels buy getting underneath the infallible boat as it’s not my trailer really don’t whant to take it off the trailer thanks. If you have a idea

If it is all set up, you'll be fine. It won't affect performance while in the water.

Good video, what outboard setting is best for an inflatable boat so the boat doesn't drag in the water?
@ErickMartinSucre

I put the pin on the #2 slot so it lines up with the water

@@ErickMartinSucre Me too. Normally we are 2 in the boat and #2 slot works pretty fine. If the water gets rough you can trim it out to #3 slot in order to upper the bow a little bit. That's how I do it.

Hey, quick question: If the outboard has holes to allow you to bolt it on to the transom, after drilling holes in the transom, do you do that? Or do you just use the clamps?
@ErickMartinSucre
Жыл бұрын
Just the clamps
@FeldwebelWolfenstool
3 жыл бұрын
...the brackets bolted to the transom are aluminum (relatively soft). The can easily be splayed out by ramrodding your rig over rough or uneven terrain...which makes the legs wobble and makes the pins wear out their holes bigger and oblong, so, baby them folks. The voice of experience talkin'... I may replace them with steel ones....

R u able to get the boat into plane with that depth?
@ErickMartinSucre

These inflatables use a short shaft 15 inches. It gets on place nicely. I recently got me a Saturn ZK380 with a 9.8hp Tohatsu. I had to put a hydrofoil on it in order to plane properly.

At 1:08 I can see that this 6hp cavitation plate is lower than the keel. To get top performance and speed the cavitation plate should be even to 1 inch below boat bottom. The motor been to low increases drag especially at high speed.

I’m new to boating in every aspect, going to be buying a 10ft inflatable for two people maximum. I’m wondering if 20hp would be overkill. Someone told me I should get a 20hp.

I gave that boat to my foster mom. I currently own a Saturn SK385XL kaboat, that one I use mostly on lakes and rivers. My Saturn ZK380 kaboat is larger, and it's the one I use for wide open ocean waters.

Why do we have to be sure the outboard is on the forward gear before we extend the bracket, Erick? if the outboard is in neutral position that action would be impossible to be done?
@ErickMartinSucre

It is designed that way. Same for engaging shallow drive.
@ErickMartinSucre

Haven't seen any outboard that allows you to do it with putting it into gear. Maybe the Honda BF2.3, that one has a centrifugal clutch that engages the gears as you accelerate so no need to have it in gear to lift it.
@SNEVIC

@@ErickMartinSucre Ok, I understand. My Yamaha 6HP allows to do that with the outboard in neutral position. Maybe it has a different designed. Thanks for the video and the reply, Erick.
