A big advantage using the phone for navigation is the audio future of Komoot. Put the phone into a waterproof bag and an phoneplug into the ear. Komoot will navigate and tell you the direction into the ear. So you don't have to look at the bike computer all the time and have more fun enjoying the landscape around you ;o) I love this future very much.

Planned rides are fun every so often, but much more prefer just riding with the flow and taking "random" trails that come up. Especially near cities there are tons of really great shorter trails, connected by pavement so you get lots of different trails in one ride.

Thanks for this video, Komoot is a brilliant app and pc route planner, been testing and trying it out this week so we just got some cheap iPhone 5s off fleebay and put them in an armoured case, works great and much cheaper than those garmin, plus the maps work offline and you don't even need a sim card in the phone.

Have you ever tried Trailforks? You can do a lot of really nifty stuff with it - and other users can post vids, pics, trail updates, etc... it often gives details on trail features, and it tells you level of difficulty. I was travelling from Canada to Geneva (my wife had a work function), and was able to find some good DH sections on Mont Salève.

I thought it was a bit rubbish when I used it the other day, but seeing this I hadn't realised there were different settings for mtb, so eager I went back and tried my destination and starting point again. Again it picked roads, but ah ha, click alpine and hey presto. . . no different. Guess Cornwall's just a bit rubbish for interesting routes. Took a couple hours in the end checking the council website for byways and bridlepaths, finding then on google street view, check they looked ok then forcing Komoot to take that route or remembering to ignore it's instructions when it couldn't find the footpath I'd be going down. Maybe with user input it'll start listing trail highlights. I just hope it's not got trail nazi admins like Trailforks who aren't happy if an added trail they are hundreds of miles away from ever riding aren't 101% happy it meets their exacting anal requirements because it doesn't start and finish on a mappable feature, runs to close to another trail or just doesn't exactly match the google satellite image. After months of riding and adding then finding them vanishing or being changed to be wrong I'm done with it.

Do you know whether or not you have legal right of way on any of these tracks? A “path” would imply it’s at most a public footpath which has pedestrian rights but not for cycling. In some areas in the country there are potential access issues where a load of people riding where they don’t have the right to could lead to blanket bans, including existing route which do have access…. It’s very clunky in comparison, but with the OS mapping app you can at least see the rights of way .

The bike is solid and my Ebike conversion went great. kzitem.infoUgkxHL1v1R3NE5x4KiYfyt8dnQmyNYz7qi5L Very smooth ride at 30mph with no problems (135 miles ridden so far). The picture is a bit deceiving - there is WAY less space in the center of the frame than it shows. The suspension connection takes up the entire thing. So I needed to attach my battery on the bottom of the frame and my controller on the top. Instructions for assembly were lacking but honestly it wasn't too hard to figure out even though I have very little bike knowledge. Watched some youtube videos on adjusting the disk brakes but that was it. Still, I am loving it and very happy with the purchase.
