All my friends and I are going to the gym, they're whacking down whey powders and chicken breasts, and I'm there making clean gains with kidney beans, leafy greens, hemp seeds, bananas and nuts being my staple foods. I've already gained 4 kg in two months and they all thought it was impossible. My strength is increasing faster than theirs too. :P

Hey! Great video! Would you be able to list the ingredients and their quantities within the description of the video? That would be a great resource for your subscribers, especially for those trying to replicate the herbs and spices you use. How many servings do these ingredients create? Also, do you reheat your food or do you eat your planned meals cold? I'm new to veganism and still navigating meal preps. Any advice would be appreciated.

Hey I love your vid, the food looks great. Is there a way I can work out how much I need to eat per meal (e.g., how many grams of carbs, protein) and any foods I should be having more of or less of? I am sick of eating meat, it makes me feel sick and heavy when I am at the gym and I am not getting any gains. Totally agree with the health benefits (I am an clinical ex physiology student), and the science shows a clear link between heart disease and certain GIT cancers and a diet highly composed of meat.

So what do you think about the claim that you need 1g protein per lb of body weight? I am fairly new to lifting and am trying to lose weight as I am at over 30% body fat, weighing in at 115kg/250lb. If I try and hit 200g protein per day with this kind of meal (let alone 250g) I would eat five of those meals, meaning 875g of carbohydrate, meaning 3,500kcal of carb alone. Plus another 800kcal from the protein, and some extra from fats and whatnot, and I am looking at at least 4,500 kcal per day. Given that to lose weight at a decent pace I need to be looking to consume in the 2,000kcal range, it looks to me like this kind of eating will mean I am taking on more than twice the calories I should be. This is bulking level calories for sure, not cutting. So what gives? Are you saying that the 1g protein per lb body weight is waaay off, and half that would be okay?

Good to see another strongan in this vegan shit. I'll subscribe.
but how much protein do you try to hit each day? I have little muscle but im 150lbs. I'm told .7g/lb bw & half that for fat is optimal for hormone levels (which is 105 & 55 for me), but then I'm told to hit 140/150g protein & 70g fat per day...

Jpegwun I can't remember off the top of my head but I'm pretty sure it's usually 0.3 or around that amount And 0.5-1.5 of protein per pound. People usually do 0.8 What's left over is in carbs. But any of the macros can be adjusted after you calculated the ending amounts, to make them more manageable. You're supposed to also try to have more protein in your diet if you want to get leaner, but since most vegan foods have more grams of carbs per gram of protein (even if they're higher in protein than other foods), you'll probably technically be eating more carbs than protein anyway But Idk as much about vegan bodybuilding diet. I'm newly vegan. The macros would typically work the same
@jstar1022951
7 жыл бұрын
Jpegwun oh but the one other thing is that many carb sources have protein but are incomplete proteins While meats have more complete proteins. To make complete proteins, out of the carbs containing incomplete proteins, you'd have to mix up many of the incomplete proteins. A group of them combined makes a complete protein like in meats So that's probably how you'd get a higher protein diet in a vegan diet like this, to correct my previous statement

Your body can store carbohydrates and fat, but not protein. So if the protein content exceeds the amount you need, not only your liver and kidneys become overburned, but you will start leaching calcium from your bones to neutralize the excess animal protein that becomes acidic. That why so many people suffer from osteoporosis at an early age (normally only very old people should get it), their bones get brittle even though they get enough calcium daily from dairy products; the excess protein always leaves them with a net deficit. By eating a plant-based diet you'll be getting nor too little, nor too much. The myth that animal proteins are more complete than plant proteins is a myth too and total BS. Plants supply all the essential and nonessential amino acids. Your body can synthesize them all. Your body will sort that all out for you and creates a perfectly balanced amino acid profile. It's healthier, safer and better than any animal protein + you'll be getting all the macronutrients as well. Iron for instance: 91% of my daily intake comes from my mean green juice and no other food or supplement can even come close to natural green cabbage. So listen to this guy: no cholesterol, plenty of nutrients will keep the doctor away and the ambulance will stop somewhere else. And if you aren't convinced yet as a bodybuilder ask yourself this question. How do gorillas get this big and muscular? If you are a strong man or powerlifter: how do elephants get this massive? Yes, by eating plants only!
@waltermessines5181

Too simple. You have to complicate it much more for people to buy it.
@damillionmalania
5 жыл бұрын
How complete a protein source is is determined by how many different amino acids are prevelent in each food. There are nine amino acids we need to get in our diets each day, and meat, eggs and cheese contain high quantities of all nine of these. Lentils, beans and most vegetables do not. This is a fact, not a statement about ethics. Furthermore, something should be said about the difference between theory and empirical results. For instance, it's often claimed that tofu and other soy products contain a substance which looks and behaves a lot like estrogen, and for this reason soy should be avoided by men as it interferes with their hormonal health (their rate of testosterone, more specifically). In theory, this idea makes sense, but when tried in practice it just isn't right. What is amazing to me is that we keep hearing about this theoretical idea even after it has been dismissed by experiment. Your statement about high protein causing kidney disfunction is in the very same category. As an idea it makes sense in theory that a higher production of urea which needs to be filtered out of the blood through the kidneys could put them under more strain, but in practice there are studies that have followed athletes eating 3g of protein per kg of bodyweight per day, and those studies show no lowering of the kidney function or any other health problems linked to high protein intake. If you agree that placing real life test results before theory makes sense (in other words, that science kicks ass) you should concider your statement disinformation.

I plan on changing to an organic vegan diet for the health benefits and then eating 3,000 calories a day because I'm trying to gain weight and muscle. The amount of food I would need seems really expensive though, is there a more cost effective way of getting that many calories a day yet still getting all the nutrients I need? I'd prefer not to spend anymore than like $300 a month on groceries if possible.

I have a question, Paul. While I can see how one can fit in the required amount of protein on a plant-based diet, I've yet to find a way to do so while keeping carbs at bay. During a "bulk" this isn't so much a concern, but it is during a cut. Yes - it can be accomplished using protein powders, but like you, I'd like to keep my nutrition using only whole foods. Any suggestions? Thanks!

I know for a fact that 40 grams of protein and 175 grams of carbs in a single meal wouldn't work for me. I'd have to sub tofu for the quinoa and adzuki beans. However I am nowhere near as big as you and likely never will be.

How'd you accurately calculate the grams of protein in the prepared meal? I get that it's easy to measure/weigh the quinoa, but not so in the mixture of food.
@herbsabeast1
6 жыл бұрын
You said that is around 40 grams of protein. For my current body mass I would need to eat that giant meal 4 times in 1 day which might not have enough fatty acids and too much carbs. Vegetables go through your digestive system at least 50% faster. I have gone vegan for a few weeks. What I can tell you is the only gains I got were trips to the bathroom. I do understand that at the beginning you sh&t more, however if you compare that to someone who eats meat they don't go to the bathroom as much. On the second week of being vegan you might poop 2 times a day if your lucky. If I was on a meat based diet 1 time a day is plenty.
