I'd love to know some tips to get enthusiastic about researching travel. I have a trip to Northern Europe in summer 25 and it's my first trip in many years without my travel agent organising everything for me. Apart from my regular things I like, trains and boats, and visiting great architecture, I am not one to spend hours researching every aspect, but I still like to have bookings made in advance. How do you recommend getting excited about the planning?

Wow, I’ve watched countless videos on how to create a map and access it on my phone and could never figure it out, until now! Omg, you explained it so simple even I could do it. Thank you.🙏 I’m still working on figuring out how to view it on my phone where it’s easy to follow at my destination and doesn’t appear cluttered with so many other icons that I don’t want or need.

Very well done. I use My Maps extensively when planning long RV trips. Rather than using layers for each day I use them for categories of things. I have one for National Park units, another for places to camp/stay, another for hikes to do, etc. Also, there is a limit of 10 layers and that includes the driving direction layers. That can be limiting. I’ll look forward to part 2.

Though I'm an Indian from interior south India I'm getting more and more fascinated by your videos. Your simple to understand language, narrations, guidance, maximum use of the tools including time, money, luggage, technologies, online stuff, organiser etc., etc., by minimum investment from my side. Nowadays my search for your videos becomes more intense than my early morning bed coffee. I'm in my mid 50s after chasing money on all these years to settle decently and settled in my house with my kids and grandkids, still I feel I missed a life which you are enjoying. But, now I have started to explore my own country itself by using your vital inputs. Still I'm a toddler for this life. But you are making it a lot better. Thanks a lot Bro...

I've got to say that with the general availability of Google Gemini, most of your planning can be done in minutes if not seconds. I planned a motorcycle trip from Copenhagen to Croatia with suggested motels, sightseeing points, itineraries, etc, for a 2 week trip. Gemini spat out everything including routing in about 30 seconds

Making walking trips is wonderful! It's amazing (i.e.dumb) that you can't do that in Maps itself. In Maps you can only have multiple stops for driving but not for walking. Any way to hide all the location pins that appear on My Maps? They really clutter things ups. That's one thing you can do pretty well on Maps itself. thanks!

Love your video! I'm using My Maps and it looks like Google just made some "improvements". One isn't a big deal as it only moved the Saved maps as follows Google Maps > You (at the bottom of the screen) > More > Scroll down and select Maps > Select the Map you want (which was created in My Maps on your computer) BUT Now I can't use the different labels I made! I use a Pixel 7 (android) and while I can open the saved My Map, I can't choose between different layers. Are you hitting the same problem? I also see I can't choose different Base Maps when using it on Maps. It only lets me see whatever Base Map I last used on my computer. Do you have the same issue? I've also started using a workaround to be able to use My Maps on my phone by connecting to it online on my phone. Of course, it only works if I have a data signal but then I have full functionality.

Ian - I'm hip deep in this process planning for Spain leaving 18 June. I have downloaded some guide maps from others and made some myself. The problem with Google My Maps not being available on our iPhones is that the Google Maps info doesn't carry over to a created map. IOW adding a location, such as a restaurant, to a created map in My Maps will not allow the info such as star rating, hours, etc to be accessible on our mobile device. Do you know of a work around? Am I doing something wrong? Note this works fine on the laptop - just open the created map in Google My Maps and everything is there just fine.

Very nicely explained for the basics, good job. Suggestions for part two: 1 fill in detailed descriptions of places by copy/paste from existing sources like websites, wiki, e-books, etc. That space can hold a lot of text. 2 many times when you enter a destination, the website for that place is automatically included, clickable. If not, you can add them manually, copy/paste 3 more explanation of how to follow the dot while walking, and deviating from the route at will 4 better to use an iPad in the field, easier to read the map, so get an iPad with cellular, then purchase local sim card for one month service. Thus, it helps to have a shoulder bag with easy access to the iPad, so that you can easily pull it out and put away. 5 add lots of restaurants 6 explain how to find other people's maps, of those who share 7 share your maps, and you can embed them in your website, as I have done here townsofeurope.com/ with maps you can also have 8 map data from one map can be imported into another map: Find good map from others, who are sharing, that has useful info; Click 3 dots then choose Export as KML instead of KMZ and download kml file; Open new map; Click import in a fresh layer; Drag kml file to that layer 9 emphasize the empowerment you get from arriving in a strange town with a fully-loaded map, showing where you are and where to go
