I am very curious about your concrete borders. Is concrete safe around food? My limited research on concrete reveals sometimes flyash is used in cement mix and its not really good to be around food crops. Any comments appreciated

Thanks for the info. It would be good if you mentioned what type of climate you are advising the info to be used for, including when to plant etc.... being in subtropical Qld in Oz do I need black heat mats as well? It gets pretty hot here from August till April.
@organicediblegarden9061
4 жыл бұрын
You shouldn't need heat mats in Queensland. We're in New Zealand where it's definitely cooler. We don't plant these guys till early December, as they really need the heat. You should be able to put your eggplants and peppers in now :)

Nice video. Can you (or someone) comment on what it means to "plant by the moon" ? Plant when the moon is full?...New?
@fishmut
4 жыл бұрын
asdfasdfasdf ...yes the moon phases determine growth and how our planet and everything else works such as ocean tides , high and low or neap tides and king tides. (Gravitational pull) this works in plants also the right time for root crops and above ground plants all affected by the sap run in them from the gravitation pull and forces of the moon , best if you go and research some information on it, planting by the moon phases has been around for a very very long time. Hope I helped a little bit.

There is a growing argument to not crop rotation for the same reasons as they did. As pests build up and linger so do their enemies the good insects etc. organic garden if using lasagna or mulched garden method you keep adding food at all stages. Working with nature can pay off big time

Sir, what can we plant in the beds tomatoes ,peppers have been grown the year before
@organicediblegarden9061
6 жыл бұрын
Hi there This is the Crop Rotation method we recommend: A Nitrogen Crop (peas, beans, green manure crops) is followed by a Root Crop (beetroot, carrots etc) which is followed by a Green Leafy Crop (lettuce, spinach, broccoli, cabbage etc) which is then followed by a Fruiting Crop (tomatoes, eggplants, capsicums, chillis etc). Then back to the Nitrogen Crop. So in your case we would grow peas and beans or a green manure crop like lupins or oats next. Hope that's helpful :)

Are your raised soil beds deep enough for the eggplants? I’m new at this but I heard eggplants grow long roots?
@oneloveyessah

How deep can you plant the stem without it getting rot.
@organicediblegarden9061

You should plant the plant in the ground at the same level as it was in its pot. No deeper :)

In our later videos we've dropped the music levels. We use music because one guy talking for this long is a bit boring - music fills in the gaps, but agree the level might be a bit high in this vid.

can we plant eggplant n peper together in one container/?
@organicediblegarden9061
8 жыл бұрын
Yes you can plant them together as they like the same conditions: all day sun, hot temperatures, nice new soil if you're growing them in a container, a nitrogen boost in the form of an animal manure when planting and if you have access to a mineral-rich organic fertiliser, a handful of that per plant will make them extra healthy.

Sounds like it got powdery mildew. In that link I sent to you previously it has remedies or preventative measures for powdery mildew. Spraying your plants with liquid seaweed is also a preventative.

@organicediblegarden9061

New Moon is a good time sow and plant leafy greens, First Quarter is a good time to sow and plant vegetables with seeds in them, root crops experience extra energy in the Full Moon and in the Last Quarter we recommend maintenance jobs in the summer and rest in the winter.

There are 4 moon phases - New Moon (good for growing leafy greens), First Quarter (good for growing vegetables with seeds in them), Full Moon (good period for growing root crops) and Last Quarter (time for rest in winter and maintenance jobs in the summer). We use a certified organic potting mix, then we add rock dust which has seaweed added to it. If you use straight rock dust, we would recommend adding some seaweed to the mix to help prevent damping off :)
