Thank you Andrew Rooney. I appreciate your approach to teaching drums. No games, no condescending BS and I find you entertaining. This lesson confirmed my approach to the "buzz" roll. You simply said what I was thinking on how to get better and achieve the outcome. Keep up the content Roonster. Respect. S

I remember Ed Shaughnessy talking about the "Whipped Cream" roll, something that Buddy Rich showed him. Basically, it's a buzz roll, but instead of having the hands go up and down, they do kind of a flattened circular motion, as if you were whipping cream, hence the name. The sticks wind up striking the head in a motion close to parallel to it, which lessens the impact of the first stroke. When done well, you get a seamless sound without the pulse of the subdivision coming through. This is probably old news to you, Andrew. I just thought it might be of interest to some of your subscribers. I'm still working on it. I try to practice the regular way and then the whipped cream way. I notice a difference even on a practice pad. Your lesson has inspired me to back to basics, though. Work out some of those kinks and bad habits I may have fallen into. Thanks.

Man that’s some serious touch at 7:00; what a great breakdown of steps My problem is that the snare adjustment that sounds best results in snare buzz when I hit the toms I HATE snare buzz, to the point that I’d rather choke the snare - I’ve had some success putting moongel under the snare wires..... I don’t know why I thought of it, but it really does help. Has anyone else ever tried that?

Thank you so much Patrick! I hear ya. How close is your snare range to the toms tuning? I'd try and separate them. Either toms lower or snare higher so they aren't interfering. Let me know how you get on Sir!

This reminds me of a video I've seen of Dan Searle going through his favorite rhythms/rudiments. Would be nice to see some of your favorites
