Hey guys, I am curious to know whether you guys have tennis backgrounds, because your low-to-high follow through looks like a tennis forehand groundstroke. Are you basically using fundamental tennis groundstroke and volley techniques for pickleball? Is the technique the same as tennis? Thanks!
@PickleballJourney

Hey Lisa, we both have tennis backgrounds. Elisha is also PPR certified in pickleball. Some of the fundamentals transfer from tennis, but there is a decent amount of technique that differs in pickleball. 👍

We refer to bangers as players that hit drives extremely fast. Generally with not a lot of control. These players tend to be more comfortable back hitting drives instead of moving forward. Hope this helps, thanks!

Less arc on your drops … the ball will bounce less on the other side
@casperthegm741
2 жыл бұрын
Same problem here. I think the third shot drop is the hardest shot by far- too short and you're in the net- too long or high and the bangers can tee off on it. What I've seen some people do is hit their third shot a little firmer (but not bang it), so that it doesn't have as much arc or high bounce, forcing your opponent to hit it back from below the top of the net. They'll have a tougher time hitting it hard, or if they do, they'll risk hitting it out of bounds due to the upward trajectory when they bang it from below the top of the net. Either way, this kind of firmer 3rd shot drop still gives you time to move up after you hit it and then when you're hitting your 5th shot from closer to the kitchen line you should be better able to dink it over, as you're now closer to where you want to be and your opponent's shot shouldn't be a big drive (hopefully). Much easier to write it than to pull it off, but something to consider :-)

Lot of 4.5+ tennis players coming into the game and don’t have the soft game, so they like to stay back and rip them. They are the ones I like to hit the drop (or cut) volley so that it bounces twice in the kitchen…then the banger has to lunge and dash forward, either messing up or popping it up. Hitting deep to this type of player is what a coach once said, “You’re feeding the beast.”

I don’t know, I like playing singles, and I like everyone to play to win…..you want to run to the kitchen immediately everytime, fine, but it’s within the rules to bang--no tears. Same with the guy that’s too fat to move ( did I say that?) he shuffles his way immediately to the kitchen and I lob one deep over his head….and that’s cheating too…..seems to be lots of cry babies associated with Pickleball! Love the sport, can’t stand the crying.

Yes, I’ve noticed a lot of whining about bangers - almost always from players that aren’t capable of hitting hard and/or have little success against them. If I’m banging and winning, I’m not going to play soft just to conform to the “right way to play”

@@JV220 if I can get them to the net then it’s a win win situation for me at least. They aren’t comfortable at net and I can usually beat them, if I try to keep them back I’m playing their game and I want them to be in a place where they aren’t comfortable. Bangers only bang if it works, as soon as they see it’s not working they’ll target your partner, if they know how to block too you just took all their power away.
