Les Zeppelin’s conversation: “Guys, we need a song title for this one…” “I saw a black dog wandering around here.” “A what?” “Black… dog…” “Perfect. That’ll do!!”

"Don't forget that all-important quarter-step blues bend," you say. Actually, some of those minor thirds DON'T get bent upward! And some of them get a fast vibrato rather than a bend. Also, I play the high E on the B string (or the "idiot way" as you call it LOL) so I don't have to move my hand, which allows a slight palm mute on the D note. You can hear it in the studio version. Check out my full studio cover of this song. I still had pretty crappy equipment and wasn't very good at post production yet, but at least you'll get a more accurate version to refer to.

Greetings, thanks for the kind words! The tone is the Epiphone '60s Les Paul (with stock pickups) plugged straight into a Boss Katana Artist 100W on the "Crunch" channel, with the amp's built-in "Hall Reverb" set at around 10 0'clock. The sound is straight to camera via the amp's Record Out jack - with no external "tweaking" (I used the Vintage Cab setting). Also, the Gain was not very high at all...less than you may well think, actually. Hope this helps - go get 'em!

Great vid. Black Dog was one of the first riffs I ever learned (back when I had a hard time fretting anything) b/c I could play the riff entirely in one place, without needing to move my hand off the 5th fret. Later, when my skills were a bit better, I’d do the walk down D-E, C-E on the A string. Such a fun riff & a great way to figure out that notes can be played in several places, etc.

Notes are correct, but feel is very, very wrong. A classic issue with people playing Page riffs.

While a great lesson, playing the part is extremely simple. It’s getting everyone to start at the same time needs the lesson.

Nick, is that a Les Pual 50's or 60's 🤔 And what kind of modifications have you done to it? That thing sounds great. I'm a lefty also and the only thing I can find here is the Standard 50's at $649 American. Not sure if I want to plung in though lol Any advice? Thanks!

It's a '60s, and completely stock. I was running it straight into a 100W Bass Katana combo - no pre or post FX or tweaking, just the Hall Reverb within the amp... I picked the 60 over the 50s because I personally prefer the neck shape. Both rock IMHO. Happy hunting!

My friend took one look at this video and knew who you were and had never seen any of these Sweetwater videos before. He said that’s Nick Bowcott from Grim Reaper! He’s a bad ass guitarist. I was surprised he knew and I didn’t. He’s 10 years older than me but we still listen to all the same music. At least he knew and informed me though.

Actually, Zeppelin stopped muting/blocking back in 2020 or so. HALF my content is Zeppelin covers. Full studio covers. Not one of them has been pulled down. I've had two versions of stairway pulled down, as well as a couple others like Babe I'm gonna leave you, but that was all before 2020. Now they let it stay up.

@@stratonut .....Yeah it seems that KZitem did sort of "crack down" on people when the pandemic hit , and people started REALLY posting alot of guitar stuff on it, and not particularly reading all the fine print. It does sort of blow to see them doing such, especially with older material from days back. But alas, rules are rules, even when they suck !!! All bout Da Benjamins it seems.....MANY have had problems with em......MANY !!!!!! Best of luck to ya man, and no matter what-keep jamming and HAVING FUN !!!!! Miss a fee(oopppps few-lol) notes or change a few.......No problem either !!!! Lol...Ya get my drift!!!
