This is a song that I obsess about. It's impossible to imagine the vocals without the chord progression, and the lyrics have so much meaning to me, given my love for the guitar. Thanks for the video!

Hi Jon. Here in Italy, the pandemic hit us hard. We've been living like hermits for over a year now. Believe it or not, your lessons help stay up. Cheers n thanks.

For years I was missing that D#m7 on the intro, and it never sounded quite right. Thank you much for posting this!

Jon you are posting my favorite songs form the 60's. Last week it was Happy together by the Turtles with your hybrid picking. Once again, Drift Away is a song where over 90% of the tutorials mess up the intro or just strum through it. Your cover is 100% accurate and bang on to Dobie Gray's studio version. I am impressed by your wide reaching musical knowledge and your appreciation of songs that were hits way before you were born. Cheers!👍👍

Awww thanks so much Keef! I appreciate that and your point is EXACTLY why I need to make these videos. Many lessons (and even ones with millions of views) are often musically so far off, and as a student it can be tough to even know if what you're learning is accurate and is how it was really played. I make mistakes all the time, I play the wrong chords, and have learned songs the wrong way and relearned them, but that is part of the value I want to bring and help shortcut players and save them years, of struggle. I appreciate you noticing. Thanks for watching and spread the word.

That’s a shame John, no mention of the guy that actually played the guitar on that track? 🤷♂️ The amazing Reggie Young. What made you think Dobie played the guitar?

I don't believe that it's D#m7 in the intro. I think it's just the F# Major triad. I don't hear the D# bass note.

Yup! There are tons of fills, and lead parts. Unfortunately I can't cover everything here on youtube. Sorry to disappoint. But I do go a lot deeper in the material on my website, like my free book about soloing or my BEST lessons in my courses here: www.jonmaclennan.com/store
