Some viewers may not be aware that there is a device available that lets you play a video on a USB to a TV and it doesn’t matter what format the USB is. The small device “Philips HD Media Player” connects to the TV with a cable, insert the USB into the device and it will play videos or photos in any format.

This is superb for ordinary people whose TV has a USB A input and even shows the process. This means that a pre-made MP4 USB compilation should play immediately. For those wanting to make USBs of favorite things this gentleman explains by showing. That is the best way. Mac can be a bit picky and Windows 11 less straightforward than 10 with its old MediaPlayer. A failsafe all codecs free program/app is VLC, which works on Windows, Mac and Linux and MP4 is the format for picture and sound. Some TVs do not have USB A but have HDMI instead. A cable able to accept the plain USB A thumb drive female at one end and has HDMI male at the other should be recognized by the TV somewhere in the Menu. TAKE CARE TO AVOID A CABLE WHICH IS FOR CHARGING ONLY because it will not carry data. Some devices have corrective circuitry boxes on them and seldom exceed $50. Tutorials showing only USB C/Thunderbolt might be okay for the latest equipment but forget the obvious fact that stored movies and/or TVs are usually a good few years old. This tutorial it outstanding because it does not make that error and enunciation, speed and clarity are top quality. Thank you.

I've watched or tried to watch movies from a USB flash drive directly plugged into the USB port of the TV. @Rotate Earth Video uhhh... no this is not true. FAT32 has a 4gb limit PER FILE not for the entire drive. A FAT32 formatted drive can actually hold up to 2tb of data. Even w/ the 4gb limit per file there are ways around this like compression and by splitting larger files into parts. So unless you are dealing with RAW data files which a smart tv can't even recognize anyways you shouldn't have a problem fitting video/audio onto it as most are under 4gb.

When I follow the steps in Komos' KZitem video, I can only see the jpg photos (whether or not the folders and files are renamed as per the instructions) and none of the mp4 files .... what might work is if I install a firestick that maybe could then access the contents on the USB key and use a free app like VLC to browse the USB port and play the videos, but I don't have a firestick yet.
