In this video, Guru Prapancham Surendran teaches the basics of Mridangam by comparing it to the English language.
In Indian Percussion, before a student enters into the Aadhi Thalam lessons, it is important to get the basic lessons right, which we call the Pre-Aadhi Thalam lessons or in simple words, Alphabets and Words.
Mridangam Alphabets: Tha, Dhi, Thom, Nam, Ta, Dhin and Chaapu.
Words: Kita, Kitathaka, Tharikitathaka, Thinaku Thinaku Dhina, Thakadhina, Tharikita and Thalaangu.
In this video, the Guru teaches how to play each one of these Alphabets and Words. Once the student is comfortable in this, it means that he is done with the basics and good to go with Aadhi Thalam Lessons (The Sentences built using these Alphabets and Words).
This video was recorded during a One to One, Live lesson with one of the students of Bmusician using our inbuilt class recording feature.
