Thank you so much for this video. I'm a new comer to golf ⛳ and I'm lugging around no name brand driver and Wilson starter set of irons (budget gentleman budget). This video has taught me so much in a short period of time. I worked on at home and practiced the drills on the driving range and I see the difference. I will be going in for a fitting soon. All the better players are nagging me and saying if you can hit the ball with no name driver for 270 meters then with a fitting session and good driver with some irons then you will surpass 300 meters easily. Again thanks for the video 📹 I really enjoy it

On that first hole I would hit driver since I can only drive it 240 max and then I would play the second shot left of the green taking the water and sand traps out of play and then rely on my chipping and putting which is the best part of my game to make par.

Hi guys, great videos! this is a great insight on how you would play a par 4, could you think about doing a video on how to play a par 4 if you don't hit the ball as far as you guys do, i'm carrying my drive 220ish and my 6iron about 140ish, i would struggle to get to some of these greens the way you hit your balls in two, thanx :)

My numbers are ~10 yards longer but as a 12 hcap, the first thing I’m thinking about on longer par 4s is what SI is the hole. If it’s SI 1-11 and needs 2 perfect shots, then I just play it as a par 5 and take the pressure off the tee shot. Keep it in play on the first 2 shots and try to give myself a decent chance to pitch and putt for 4 (net birdie) or 2 putts for 5 (net par).
@JohnBillot

Great video, thanks. Played here once some 25 years ago and certainly wasn't good enough to consider getting on the 18th in two (even off the yellows). What was surprising was how steep the three-tiered green was (was summer). My partner hit to the tier above the hole and couldn't stop the resulting putt rolling back onto the water!

Piers and Andy. Love these videos. Thank you so much. Here's my question... Standing on that 9th tee do you ever thinking about shaping the driver (or the 3W)? If you have the ability, and the confidence, to hit a draw with your big stick (in other words, if you are not me), That would put you in golden position, no? Or does that increase the risk? Or do you generally stay away from trying to shape your driver shots?

And when you pick a lay up distance dont forget to factor in the wind. No good laying up to your yardage with a 2 club wind in your face. Easy to think about the effect of the wind on the tee shot and forget its impact on the second shot. Forever doing that!

Nice one this. Will you get metric distances if you are a premium subscriber? I did spot a serious mistake (almost a deadly sin of golf) there (around 4:20) which is "I always play a bit to the left so I'll aim a bit to the right." I knew before the shot that it would go even more to the left. It always does. There is no way to fool your body. If its set on going left, it will. If you compensate, it will overcompensate. If you do it, you need to be able to do it almost subconsciously and whatever you do, do not think about it or even worse, talk about it! :)

I agree with the first two. But nobody should be aiming for getting on a par 5 in 4. Par 5 is where you can make up shots. Unless you're playing super long courses (600+ yard par 5s, and if so, you're playing from the wrong tees) If you've got a 500 yard par 5, and can hit a 240 yard drive, there's no reason you can't be green high in 3. Accept the chip on for 4, but you should never be hoping for an approach shot for 4.

Sounds like at best you're a bogey golfer (don't take that as an insult, it's not). It took a long time for me to accept that bogey golf is good golf. Don't expect pars, as you'll be disappointed more than not. Aim for a bogey, you'll change the way you attack a hole, and if you par out, awesome! You'll have more fun too if you're happy with a bogey.
