Folks, my gaming group has really enjoyed this -- it's absolutely worth a purchase if you like pirates, islands, octopuses or linen. My advice is: play for the fun and flavor and don't stress too hard about points. The game has a bunch of unpredictable twists, and sometimes the thing you do just because it seems cool will end up winning you more points than a planned-out strategy. Don't get me wrong: there is a lot of strategy in terms of seeing possibilities and seizing opportunities, but you have to be flexible, because the game will throw wrenches into your best-laid plans. One note: competitive legacy games can be frustrating because if you lose a couple of games you can feel pretty discouraged at the beginning of the next. I want to emphasize that you CAN make up large losses -- you really can. Each game is played to a higher point total than the one before, so early losses are much less significant than late victories. We had a guy make up -- no lie -- a 60-point gap between him and first place over the course of four games. So when you're 10 or 15 points behind (or ahead), don't think it's going to be forever. Enjoy the journey, do the parts of the game you find fun, and don't stress about points until the endgame.

Thank you for producing such a calm, instructive show. I really like how it's easy to pick up or share with friends. I'd love to see Pandemic Cthulhu explained since I bought it few weeks ago and had no time to read the manual. =D And Ivan, you absolutely ROCK as always!

Neat, this game has certainly been cleaned up a bit since I playtested it a few years ago. I had been meaning to see what the final product looked like; thanks for the overview!

for the record: the campaign isn't automatically over after 15 games. it ends after someone discovers the island at the end of the world, which USUALLY takes ABOUT 15 games.

This game is on my short list of games to buy, in part because I'm in the middle of a campaign with a regular gaming group. We're 6 games in now (Prologue and 5 games) and, without getting into spoilers, have discovered a bulk of the islands. Despite my personally sucking during the campaign, I like it enough to consider buying it. Update: We're now about halfway through the campaign and I have bought a copy for Christmas.

Admittedly the prologue is not very interesting and could dissuade you away from playing the first official game. But I found my first and second play after the prologue to be much more inline with what I think Rob Daviau was after.

They are wrong. The prologue is a little dull yes - but thats because there's none of the legacy mechanics on it - it hits its stride around game 3 ....

You're supposed to flip an event card at the beginning (before player actions) of the lowest ranked player's turn on turn 1 after winter. Is the prologue different than the regular game in this instance?

Friends and I played the first round of this a month or so ago. Didn't make anything permanent, just to get a feel for how things would go. It's nice, but I prefer co-op like Pandemic Legacy (the guy's previous work), personally.

This game can take fifteen or more sessions to complete, with individual game length increasing (in my group's experience) from about 1 hour at the outset to about 3 hours by the end. I'd love to see G&S do a full playthrough, but it would have to be a separate series. There's just no way they could condense it down to a single episode.

I was actually just thinking about ways to do it that would be cool -- someone in costume reading from the Captain's Booke, full-size chests in the background for the unlocks, etc. They would also want to fast-forward past some of the gameplay just like Tabletop does, rather than showing every second of every turn -- focusing on the unlocks, milestones, and raid-related temper tantrums. And obviously, you'd want charismatic players -- comedians, voice actors -- rather than your average nerd friends.

Too much embellishment, it makes it hard to focus on what you're saying. At least take a pause after you do embellish so what you're saying, not how your saying it, sinks in.

Worst rulebook I've ever dealt with in a game. There were so many times where a rules argument would start up and then we would have to try to interpret how the rules were meant.

Loved Pandemic, enjoyed Risk, HATED SEAFALL!!! rules are AWFUL, this video is a *MUST* just to know how to PLAY THE STUPID GAME... The beginning feels like grinding in an MMO more than an actual game. It's boring, boring, boring.
