*NOTES* ENERGY = POWER If a card says something like +2 Power, it's the same as saying +2 Energy. There's a resource called Energon in the game, so the name Power helps separate it so players don't get confused.

Bought the game yesterday, and sleeved up. Ready to play my first game this week, with some help from your videos. I previously owned the GI Joe DBG, as most people seem to think that one is better, but decided to sell it as it didn’t hit me the right way, even though I used to play with the toys back in the ‘80 and ‘90 all the time. Transformers DBG seems a lot of fun, so I decided to grab it and will probably get some expansions to flesh out the card pool. I have to say I am somewhat disappointed with there only being 2 bosses of each level in the core set, but nothing an expansion won’t fix I guess.

Awesome, I hope my videos help with any questions you have! BGG, the Discord, and the Facebook groups are also all excellent sources of info for some of the games odder rules. Personally I really like both GI Joe and Transformers, they are both VERY different games. Hard to pick my favorite, but there's plenty I like from each. The game variety as you add in my expansions for Transformers give it a TON of replay ability!

It's SUCH a good game. Between this, the GI Joe, and Power Ranger Deck Builders, you got some AMAZING games based off of popular IPs. Renegade is on fire with making these!

The way to use the Encounter cards was unclear in the manual. The keywords Ambush and Confrontation are misleading. I mean, I agree I am ambushed when I flip and enemy card, but how can I be ambushed when I join my friend to knowingly confront (which is not a Confrontation) a regular enemy? Your explanations were really clear. Thank you!

Excellent, very glad it was all clear and easy to understand! Yeah, the first version (original printing) of that rulebook was tough to get through. Rising Darkness cleared some things up, but the game has a LOT of similar terms and crazy rules.

I am confused. In the Autobots and Decepticons cores game manuals, the main deck construction rules are different. Decepticons schemes... how are they added to the deck? One for each pile of 7 cards after filling the matrix? 5 in the main deck and shuffled before filling the matrix? So, in a solo game only Decepticon Schemes are used, no coop shceme?
@homegamerdad

Neither of those rulebooks talk about how to properly combine the sets + expansions. I actually did a separate video going over a way to do it. Decepticon Schemes/Autobot Initiatives (the same type of card, just one for each faction) can be added to the deck in 1 of 2 ways, your choice when setting up the game: 1. Shuffle 5 into the main deck BEFORE making the 7 piles or 2. Putting one into piles after setting up the Matrix. It really all depends on how you want to play. Shuffling them in means you might not see any or possibly see them all at once. With one in each stack, you know they are there and can plan around it. In solo, coop schemes are not used (though the 3rd rulebook which just came out confuses me because it say they can 🤨). If you are playing as an Autobot, you use decepticon schemes. If you are playing as a decepticon, you use Autobot initiatives. Hope all this helps!

I have two different decks one for the Core Set (Autobots) and one for ARD (Decepticons). For solo, I just have 5 standard schemes/initiatives from the opposing faction in the decks and I also have co-op schemes shuffled into each of the stacks in the main deck. It’s challenging but pretty thematic. It sounds impossible but leveraging peek cards effectively make it a lot easier.

So, I played my first game as Optimus Prime and I won. Fairly easily I have to say, I never had more than 2 damage at one time. Prime seems to be very good for solo play, but I didn’t expect to win right away and worry a bit this game might not be difficult enough. I’ll try other characters soon and will try the expert mode where VP doesn’t convert to Energon, as I was loaded with Energon and never had any shortage, even when my Energon starter card was destroyed during the very first turn. Do you have any recommendations for what expansions might add more difficulty or extra variety? I’m getting the A Rising Darkness for sure, but beyond that, any recommendations? I did very much enjoy the game btw, very cool theme vibe for me.

Awesome win! Yeah, I honestly have won more then I've lost, but the difficulty does ramp up with more expansions. Also, there has been some rule changes for solo, most notably being: 1. VP no longer converts to Energon. It just doesn't exist in Solo mode (I don't like that, so I've home brewed my own VP system) & 2. You are limited to 12 Energon (a rule I've forgot recently). As far as recommendations go, it really all depends on your taste. A Rising Darkness and War on Cybertron are both considered Core sets, so they have all the bells and whistles you got with the original box. For the small expansions, I REALLY like Dawn of the Dinobot and Clash of the Combiners, but those are my favorite sub classes of Transformer. Infiltration Protocol adds a new mission mode and some cards, while Chaos Unleashed has Unicron (I haven't played that yet). If you're going to get them off of renegade website, I do recommend getting the promo packs along side whatever set(s) you buy. Thank you so much!

Last question 😅.. When I play solo... If there is a boss in the Matrix, do I have to beat all the other adviserys in the Matrix before confronting the boss?
@homegamerdad
Жыл бұрын
Ask all the questions you want! I’m here to help out however I can! 😁 And yes, in solo mode, you HAVE to beat any face up adversary in the matrix BEFORE confronting the boss. This rule carries over to War on Cybertron, but wasn’t put in the rulebook.

LOTS of research! Lol I do the hard work so you don’t have to 😬 Seriously, I’ve read the original rulebook, Rising Darkness rulebook, the NEW updated rulebook, and watched lots and lots of videos. Made sure I o ew exactly what was going on before I hit record, and I hope it helped you learn the game.

If I stand on a boss at the beginning of my turn, Because in my last turn I turned up a boss, does an ambush immediately activate my second turn?
@homegamerdad
Жыл бұрын
No, the ambush would NOT trigger if you just stand in a boss or even an adversary. Ambushes happen when 1) an Adversary is flipped face up and you’re on the space 2) a Boss is flipped face up and it says it does on Ambush on it’s Reveal ability & 3) when you move onto a Boss or Adversary. So just standing still on a Boss to get better cards the next turn is a good strategy!

So curious… the dinobots (except for swoop) have the ability to attack autobots as if they were adversaries). In solo/coop modes, is there ever a situation were this would be more beneficial than just purchasing the cards? Or are these abilities generally ignored in solo/coop?

In my Devastator play through, I had the option (through a card effect) to fight other Decepticons as though they were adversaries. I thought about defeating Starscream so I could get the energon, clear out a space on the grid, and not clog up my deck. In the end I did end up buying him,but those were the only reasons I could justify fighting instead of purchasing. I’ll need to play as the Dinobots to see if there’s any other reason to fight friendly Autobots.

Yes. Sometimes depending upon the situation, you may need Energon/VP more than another card. Plus having Grimlock squash Wheelie is pretty thematic…and cathartic.

Does VP count as energon in team vs team? We tried playing where it doesn't and we were always short on energon.
@homegamerdad
Жыл бұрын
I haven’t played TvT, but I know it’s considered a Competitive style game, so VP matters. In that case, VP does NOT count or can be converted to Energon. Now that doesn’t mean you CAN’T do that, it’s just not written in the rules. I’m sure there’s a variant or a home rule where you can exchange any Vaulted VP for Energon. You loose the VP for end game, but gain the useful Energon. Seems like a fair trade to me. Hope this helps!

@@homegamerdad I didn't think about making it a "trade" before. That might be an interesting way to play. I'll have to give that a try!
