If I have done all those steps in order - the cream, then waxes... Do I need to remove the waxes somehow before doing the cream again? - Because I have done the cream etc... but now I want to put more cream on because its been a few weeks since I have touched them but worried if I put cream on I am just putting cream on top of old wax? hope this makes sense!

Hi A Dylan. The Jaunty Flaneur came back with the following answer to your question: The short answer is, no you don’t have to remove the wax. As you wear the shoes the wax will come away naturally from the shoe as it only sits on the surface, and that’s what makes the shoe duller over time. Also as you massage in the creams, they will clean up the surface of any remaining wax, so the nourishment will still go into the leather. If you have used a lot of wax and it’s ‘caked’ on, you can use lighter coloured creams (especially neutral, light brown and yellow) with a little bit of pressure to remove old wax. The way those creams are formulated makes them quite good stain removers too. As always, thin, light layers of wax is the best way of looking after your shoes. The Saphir and Cordonnerie Anglaise products are superb, even in very small quantities and don’t leave a residue or silicon mess like Kiwi or Cherry Blossom, or other cheaper products.

Kirby I have a pair of Palm Grove Derbies and a pair of Marceau Buckle shoes from Louis Vuitton and I am unsure of how to polish and wax these. The Palm grove derby is a cross hatched hand dyed navy leather in the toe/vamp and back, and a hand painted navy and royal blue marbled quarter. How on earth do I polish something like this???Secondly, the Marceau buckle shoe has a very specially hand painted marbling on the tip with a few different hues of blue and I don't want to ruin the inherent design. Please help!!!

Hi Michael, please see the following regarding your question from The Jaunty Flaneur: Waxes won’t change the colour of the shoes in the same way as creams, so you can get away with a wider colour choice without altering the shoes’ character. To ‘soften’ the marbling, and bring the lighter and darker tones closer together for a more subtle look, use a navy wax. To keep the marbling as is and maintain the different hues, I would suggest yellow wax. You should be using Saphir Medaille d’Or, which means you won’t need many layers on the shoe to achieve a great finish, and this will help in not changing the colour.

Any tips for exotic leather like ostrich?
@RampleyandCo

Hi, I.O. A good brushing down and a LITTLE bit of renovateur. Care for most exotics is about cleaning and nourishing rather than shining. If a little shine is desired, a LITTLE coloured shoe cream would be fine, but not waxes. Hope that helps!

I personally don't like the toe cap to have more shine than the rest of the shoe.It makes the shoe look like patent leather.

Is that a Saphir brush?

Hi Frank, The big brush is sourced directly from the factory and is unbranded, while the welt brush we'd recommend is made by La Cordonnerie Anglaise. Both brushes are available on The Jaunty Flaneur's site if you wish to purchase. Hope that helps!
