I often use pop ups for dead baiting but never thought about soaking them in mackerel or salmon oil. Great idea!!

Super video mate! Would you use run rings or booms when adding the lead? I usually just put the weight straight onto the run ring but is it better to have a small length of mono from weight to run ring? Cheers for your help
@DavidScobie

I use run rings amego glad to hear you enjoyed the video thanks for the comment buddy

The length of mono is so if the lead gets snagged I can pull to break it and still get my trace back

You ever use Balsa sticks mate? Bought them last week, tried to pop up a roach and it sank like the titanic. Got the large ones too. I can't seem to get them to pop up. I was only using smelt and roach too.

Hi Dave love all your videos. Just wondering if the pop ups might put some pike off where they are positioned? With most pike swallowing baits head first. Therefore they would need to swallow the actual pop ups. I’m guessing it doesn’t put them off then?
@DavidScobie
2 жыл бұрын
Hey amego ideally you shouldn't let the Pike actually swallow the bait but I understand it can happen on the odd time, the only time I've been deeply hooked while popping up a bait the Pike didn't seem to care about the pop up boilie on the end of the bait.

@@DavidScobie thanks davie I’m going to try the 2nd way you did it. It’s a nightmare fishing loch Ken in the west of Scotland with there being so many crayfish in the water. Could I ask where you bought your pop up boilies, riggin wire and bait needle from please? Much appreciated
@DavidScobie
2 жыл бұрын
For Loch Ken I'd go with the foam ones mate they are more buoyant and as for rigging wire you don't really need it a old wire trace that's been kinked up will work just as well buddy

Easier to buy some balsa dowel cut to required length. Put a point on it and posh it down the deadbaits mouth.

Yes mate all they are is basically a dough that's been boiled. If you boil semolina flour paste it floats for some reason. I'd not want to eat one personally but they wouldn't do you any harm.
