This is a good video. He is right. Painting is the easiest part. It’s all the detailing before hand that matters. Two thumbs up bro.

So the painting itself is not in the video. nice.

This video is more about the prep, the "painting" is the easy part as there are different systems for the painting that would require their own standalone videos. Also, I don't have a way to protect my good camera from over spray in my booth.

Hey great job on the clogged clutch/brake line. did get it unclogged with break cleaning fluid. rebuilt the master slave and am now dealing with the charcoal canister never seen one before was stumped till I looked in the manual. still a bit confused but I think I pull through. Just wanted to thank you for the information. Thank You! Keep on trucking brother.

+Anthony Floyd Good deal. The charcoal canister is merely an (EVAP) emissions device to reclaim/filter fuel vapors from the tank vent and the carburetor vents from just evaporating into the atmosphere. The charcoal foam inside absorbs the vapor and condenses it, it can in small dose be re-introduced into the system to be burnt through the same venting system. You can eliminate it from the system if you like, just make sure your vents run down and under the motorcycle so condensed vapor can drip out.

+thejunkman i was looking for best type of spray paint, how long to wait in between coats, and how long until its fully cured
@thejunkman

+Kyle Gardner Thanks for the input. This is designed to be a more universal video. Flash times and exact procedures for the paint process will vary widely depending on the paint process you use which is also dictated by the type of paint chosen, lacquer, urethane, enamel, two stage, single stage, candy colors, ect... I should have said a blurb in the video about follow the paint manufactures directions and process for the paint system you are using.

nice video..thanks for sharing your tips...i'm working on a Suzuki GT 185 tank currently and it's a remarkably similar shape to your tank there...even down to the dent!!..will definitley have a look at your tank liner video as that's something i am considering but am wary of as i've never done it before and don't want dissolved epoxy running into my carbs etc. :)

+thejunkman how do you deal with the dust flakes. I everytime i paint something ( I use the fender for practice) I got them in the paint and I dont know what to do.

There is no good way to prevent this short of a paint booth. Keep the area clean, be inside with no wind or breeze to stir up dust.

Yes! This is the easiest type of paint job. Lightly sand, clean thoroughly and apply the paint to the manufacturers directions.

That will depend on how good you prep, how clean it is when you spray, and how well you color sand and buff the final coat of clear.

There is no painting in this video. Nor is there any instruction re filling in/repairing the dent. The title would be far more accurate as: "How to SAND a motorcycle gas tank for painting."

Sit here and watch you talk for 10 minutes and then you cut over putting the primer and the paint and all that stuff on and then you just show us and after total waste of time from now on make sure to cut the video and show each one of the steps that you do so that way people know how you do each step other than that good video!
