Hello. Great video. I am trying DIY tub to shower conversion and leaning more towards using Hydroban (Laticrete) products. My plan is to use large tiles 24x48 on the walls and floor with linear drain. Have number of questions if you won't mind 1. Should the wall sheets be done first before doing the floor sloped mud on the slab 2. How does one measure height of the drain. That is important before doing the mud the get the proper slope. 3. What will you use on top of the mud to water proof, liquid or sheet membrane from Laticrete? Why? 4. After waterproofing, do you use thin set and tiles? Any risk of damaging the membrane? If you have videos showing remain process, I would love to watch and learn. Thanks in advance . I will have a curb.

Hi Sal. Amazing content..I know its Sunday but tomorrow I'm doing a linear drain in my shower. i just want to know if u have a video explaining your installation of a non liner, linear drain.(just bare metal) and your best current preactice to waterproof into the drain and drypack. (will be useing mapei 4 to 1 mudbed). My shower details so you know is a hotmop with preslope, I will be using wonderboard and aqua defense for the liquid membrane and a 6" poly fleece in corners and changes of plane for reinforcement. ( is 6" over kill?) I thought 4 was too small. The shower is a 30.5" x 69.5". Please let me know ypur thoughts on best current practice you know and/or any videos you have pertaining to this specifically and if its better to do 1 even slope like u do here rather than a perimeter build for even tile cuts and then slop to the drain everywhere from perimeter? Thank you very much in advance.

Can you do a video about laying out a floor for running bond pattern with square lines and everything? Especially when starting the next row so all the joints line up. I see the videos where you cut everything in before you install but I always wonder how you know where to start because I never see pencil marks or anything, but if there is they get covered by thinset. Hopefully that makes sense. Thanks man appreciate your videos!

Nice video. First timer DYI! Yikes, Doing a liner drain. 5 x 6 Shower. do I make the shower drain flange "flush' with the floor (plywood) or leave 1/2 inch up for pre-slope. Do I 'embed' the liner drain tray in the preslope then leaving room for the rubber liner then thin set and tile? Many thanks. I think I took on more than I should have. But proud so far. Thank you. Love your videos!

Does the concrete floor outside of the shower area have to be totally level, as in use self leveller to get it that way?

@SalDiBlasi Hi Sal, I've seen a few of your videos on how to do the mud job, but what I'm unsure of is what type of drain set up to use an how to install it. Do you have any content on that?

Hey Sal, thanks for the videos! If you put a linear drain wall to wall, does it go straight to the cement board, or do you worry about covering the side edge with wall tile?
@SalDiBlasi

Can't go under the backer board. Drain grate has to be removable, but the tile can be on the frame.

Another awesome video sal! Stupid question. Is the screed just hydroban board screwed into the wall? And if so does it need to be sealed in any way? Thanks!

Yes Hydro ban board, and no just install the system as usual.

You’ll put a sheet membrane or paint on a membrane and seam seal the corner edges where the ledger foam is, then you tile as normal.

Sal to quick questions. Why did you decide to leave the tile in and do you pull the two pieces of foam that you used to screed off of in or do you pull them out?
@SalDiBlasi
Жыл бұрын
Foam can stay, not an issue and no need to remove the tile, extra work for no reason.

Hey Sal, this is an odd question but I've heard from many contractors who have developed arthritis on their knees after laying tiles for decades. If you don't mind me asking, has that been a concern for you?

Nice! Does the foam board sitting on top of the drain give you your thickness for Thinset & tile? I take the piece of wood that I'm using and notch it out the thickness of Tile and thinset.

The drain is yet to go in, this is a bonded system, that foam is temporary.

Please have a follow up video showing how to install the drain and the tiling! Also how did you attach the foam drain template to the sub floor so it didn’t move around while you were mudding?

Also, couple tips from someone who floats all his jobs. Get the gundlach L-screed kit, comes with 2/3/4/5/6 ft, way better than wood. Tamp that mud much harder, pull screed then redwood float smooth/flat b4 a final with steal trowel. I respect you, but looks like you don't mud often. These things will help speed and precision.

@Sal DiBlasi good deal, I've found most board makers don't mention steamers, so I still double poly behind goboard.
