Marking out dovetail joints needs a bit of preparation and it's done by using a gradient line. The gradient line slopes at an angle, but instead of measuring out an angle we use a ratio. The ratio of 1:6 is used for softwoods and 1:8 is used for hardwoods.
A sliding bevel is the marking out tools used and in this video I explain how to draw out your gradient lines at various ratios and then how to transfer those gradient lines onto a sliding bevel, and then onto your timber.
If this helps, please give it a like and subscribe for more, and drop me a comment. Cheers.
