Exactly what I needed. That tip for uploading Powerpoint into teams is gold!

Excelent tip Jeremy. I've noticed this before, almost by accident while presenting. I'd suggest this tip to make it to support documentation, as many users need this media as part of their presentations.

Thank you! The other huge benefit to PowerPoint Live sharing is also the bandwidth reduction. In many cases its around 90% compared to sharing PowerPoint using desktop or window sharing. Previously it didn't transmit audio, but now it does and you get presenter view as well with notes.

Hi Jeremy, I have been testing so much to make videos play fluidly (incl. testing settings, upload speeds etc.). Nothing worked reliably and with high quality. This tip solves it and is even usable for long videos. I am super happy you shared it with us. Thanks Florian

Hey Jeremy. Thanks for this tip. Has the recommendation changed any in the last year? I'm looking for a solution that will also allow for recording the Teams Meeting with the video playback content intact. At the present time PowerPoint Live video playback content doesn't seem to make it into the recording.

There is a new way to do this now with the KZitem application in the Teams app store. If you add the KZitem app to meetings, anyone in a meeting can collaborate on a video watch list and share the video to the meeting. Like PowerPoint Live, it uses web streaming with no lag & uncapped quality. It has the additional benefit of limiting who can pause/play the video, not requiring a PowerPoint presentation, and various other benefits. Perhaps it is worth making a new video!

Hi. I noticed that the attendees are able to pause the video you are streaming in PowerPoint Live, but just on there screen, this will not affect everyone's video playing. Is there a way to disable the video Play/Pause functionality for the attendees of a presentation? Also I noticed that if I try to scrub the video to a certain point in the video (say the 3:40 sec mark), this will not be seen by your attendees. Is that correct?
@MSFTMechanics
2 жыл бұрын
That's correct, because their endpoint is calling the video directly from KZitem or OneDrive in this case, you can only initiate the playback.

this is very cool - however when i tried it each user also had to press play on their end. was that expected or did a do something wrong?

figured a workaround out... works great with youtube, but doesnt work for Microsoft Stream

KZitem at this point tends to be more reliable if it's an option and you typically don't need to worry about permissions and requests for authentication. Sharing video by editing in the rich client, adding MP4 videos as slides, then presenting using PowerPoint Live also tends to be super reliable in my case. - Jeremy

So, hold on! I insert an online video, when I click play, Teams instructs the meeting attendee's client apps to all stream the video from the origin source? It's not being screen-dumped from my machine, then broadcasted? Have I understood? If I have, then that is bloody awesome!
@MSFTMechanics
3 жыл бұрын
Yes, and even the mp4 you might have added to a PowerPoint file, then uploaded into a meeting or OneDrive also streams from the web.

@@MSFTMechanics So if it's streaming from the source, does that include audio? That is, I don't have to click the 'Include system audio' toggle prior to sharing?
@MSFTMechanics
3 жыл бұрын
With this approach, you don't need to share system audio, it comes from the source stream, not your PC. In fact, I was going to demo that from the presenter's machine, I can disconnect from the Internet without interrupting the audience's video stream. That also works, but I cut the demo for time.

Hi Jeremy, great video, thank you. Question on this, do meeting attendees consuming your presentation using PowerPoint Live need permission to the video in question? Eg. If you are playing a restricted permission Stream video?
@MSFTMechanics

Yes, for Stream videos they would need permissions

I was following clearly until you got to the app version. We have a long Power Point presentation, with one video we want to share. Adding the video as a local copy into the deck should do the trick?
@MSFTMechanics

Yes, as long as you share the PowerPoint from OneDrive or SharePoint. Local copy would need to be uploaded.

At the time we published this, audio in PowerPoint Live wasn't playing, but now you can also share the video using PowerPoint Live. And there is also a Teams app to share KZitem videos simultaneously. See kzitem.info/news/bejne/opB-2pV_fHyGmII

Hey Jeremy, I am going to "Pre-Record" a training videos and segments and I really need to Disable the Playback controls for the Viewers, so they won't stop their copy of the presentation in the middle. How can I do that, I get that it is being played just for them "locally" from one drive/ect... but I really don't want a bunch of folks stopping and starting their own video.

When you share from PowerPoint Live, you can choose not to let people preview the other slides. Then you are in control.
