I would not use that wax you linked to to dip wax. It is made in China, which is a warning that it may contain all sorts of contaminants. Also, the description says it contains a mix of various waxes, including microcrystaline and paraffin. I wouldn't want a petrochemical like that in contact with my cheese - certainly for a period of years. The reviews say that the dye bleeds into the cheese - that is a bad sign. Also, what dyes did they use to color the waxes - are they food safe? Find a USA or European made cheese wax. At least they are likely to be food safe. I have bee hives, so can use pure bees wax for dipping.

100% agree! I would love to do this but will NOT buy anything made in China.

@@conservativehispanic5918 Find a local farmer's market and look for a farmer selling local honey. They may also have beeswax for sale.

I just found your channel and love the idea of waxing my bulk cheese. I assume I can order the wax online? Also, the background "white" noise and music was a bit loud. I adjust my music in my video editor and use a screen with my mic for background "white" noise. Plus, I find that I did this little smack between thoughts and it helped me eliminate that. Good luck on your channel. I look forward to more.

Did you have any issues with air bubbles in your cheese while you were dipping it? We tried waxing 10 lbs of raw Monterrey Jack from Azure (that we cut into 1/2 lb blocks) last weekend. We did not put in the fridge after we cut the blocks. We air dried on racks on the countertop. And we didn't put the waxed blocks in the fridge after waxing. This was our first time ever doing this. We re-dipped the blocks with air bubbles but aren't sure if they will be okay long-term. Our cheese that we air dried on the counter after cutting was very dry and had cracking like crevices in it. Just saw this video You made.

@@d.mitchell58 I did not have air bubbles . Did you do thin coats of wax? I did very thin coats and I also let my cheese air dry in the fridge. It was dray and cracked like yours but cold so it would hold together when dipping. I hope that helps !

Here is my affiliate link : amzn.to/43Kc3Hp I got it on Amazon. I do make a small commission is you use my link. I would make sure the wax is food grade and meant for cheese. I hope this helps !

How many times did you dip each side of the cheese?
@GullionHomestead

@@d.mitchell58 hi there . I would say at least 5 times but I was thinking we did some 8-9. If I could see the cheese through the wax (transparent ) I continued to dip until it was no longer transparent. I hope this helps! Thanks for watching !

Is it possible to reuse the wax? Filtering necessary?
@GullionHomestead

Yes you can. You can melt the wax down and strain through a cheesecloth to reuse your wax! Thank you for asking that great question!
