I went to 2 places today to get the oil changed on my 2017 F-150 2.7 Ecoboost. They won’t do it because of the plug. I have to go to the dealership to get this done? Ugh!

hello and thanks for commenting! I empathize with you! This is a terrible design, don't know what Ford was thinking. I took a look at your channel and I think you have the skills to change the oil yourself. Get one of these plugs, makes the job much easier and cheaper and you know what oil and filter you're getting. Check out this playlist regarding oil change locations and other service watchouts: kzitem.info/door/PLGNsbVXzRfZPJ9P5nZ2nBPtK-p8e-HaxF

You can slip, I believe, a 5/8 tube over the end of the valve and drain into a pan without the mess. Much easier cleanup.

I have a 2018 F-150 and I do oil changes. I noticed the drain plug is leaking, slowly it drips. Perhaps the drain plug is not seal enough and I don’t like it. Started to go KZitem videos to see to fix the problem and I really like the design. Will this new design stops from leaking? Will it seal good enough for not oil to come out?

It depends on the cause of the leak. Is the gasket bad?

The yellow drain plug is designed to be used only a few times. It should be replaced every other oil change. The o-ring does go bad and can cause a leak. Good luck!

I hear you, I’m not sure which I prefer. I know in some cases the plastic heat cycles, gets brittle and cracks… steel rusts. My problem is this stupid drain plug design.

Nice design. Maybe they could offer a screw on hose, maybe 6 inches or shorter, that would allow the oil to miss the sway bar completely that would screw on where the cap screws off. Yeah, its something to keep up with, but it might be worth it. Just an idea you could throw at your sponsor.

it''s an excellent idea, and the manufacturer already saw your comment and the comment from Brandon Lee and are sending the comments back to their engineering department.

Keep a short piece of clear Vinal tubbing handy. Slip it over the drain cap threads.

Yes, GM built in the same insane drain plug design into model year '15 5.3's (maybe others?). I found a similar drain valve 'fix' and incorporated a 90 degree hose that directs the oil downward where I want it. I'm sure any shadetree mechanic with imagination will see this fix immediately - to direct oil away from the sway bar and into the pan. Thanks for the tip and link!

I have a '16 F150 5.0L with a METAL oil pan. Why did Ford change this? Stupid idea!

Ford has never given a second thought to oil pan drain plug locations. My explorer would dump oil all over the brake rotor and wheel every time if I didn't put a piece of cardboard over it.

Their engineering has declined significantly. I'm not as big a fan as I used to be.

Idk what ford was thinking with this oil plug placement, the plug is ok but i learned the hard way doing my first oil change, splash every fuc@#$ng where and made a huge mess , why not pointing downwards like all cars 🤷♂️
