Hello, super impressed by your video on Silver Glory. Do you keep it in full light? Do you keep it in that enclosure? Mine are not doing too well (curly leaves, slow growth etc.) Can you give more details on temperature, type of soil, light, humidity etc.? Thank you for this upload.

Hi! Thank you! I have a couple of different plants in different situations. My Silver Glory kept in my grow tent is doing the best, of course. High humidity, bright lighting, warm temperatures. Grows like a weed. The one that is kept in normal room conditions is growing as well but not as fast. It gets lower humidity and the lighting is not quite as bright. But the leaves are nicely open without any curling problems. I'm growing mine in Fox Farm ocean forest soil with added pumice, orchid bark and worm castings. This seems to work well for both plants. Normal room temp for me is around 65 at night to 72 during the day, humidity around 30%. Grow tent conditions are 80% humidity and 75 degrees during the day, 64 at night. Hope this helps :). Thanks for watching and lots of luck with your Silver Glory!!!!

The prop box is on a shelf under grow lights and it has a built in ventilation window (two of them at the top) where you can adjust how much fresh air you want to get in the box. I would link it for you but I found it locally.

I've tried this method before and it's hit or miss. Does the node part of the cutting need to be touching the soil? That seems to be the most difficult part for me to get right if that's the case. I secure with bobby pins from the Dollar Tree. And why must there be a part of the stem at each end? I'd love to know how the comibination pot turned out. It looked so cute even without any growth 😊.
@ThePinkTrellis
2 жыл бұрын
Hi! It does need to be touching the soil. I leave some stem on either end of the node just to have in order to more easily pin it down into the soil. I think very importantly the newly propagated plant should be kept in a humid (at least 30-40%) and bright location. I’ve never failed with this method. The combination pot is doing great! I wish I could post a photo here. If you go to my Instagram page there is a more recent photo posted there. My Instagram is @thepinktrellis. Thanks and I hope this helps clarify more for you 😊.

@@ThePinkTrellis Am smiling! You replied so quickly that I was still watching one of your other videos. I wonder if you are able to update a previous video and add an "after" a couple of months later, in a case such as this, where it would be nice to see the results all in one place. I didn't do a humidity dome in my previous attemps with string of hearts but will definitely do so now. I'm inspired to propagate!

Hi! You will find that you won’t have to water very often. In an enclosure, like a prop box, it stays pretty wet. I would just water if the top of the soil looks/feels dry.

@ThePinkTrellis
Жыл бұрын
Hi, Grace! Thank you! I do water them initially, and then after that, not very frequently since they tend to stay quite moist in the greenhouse environment. If I see and feel that the top soil is dry, then I go ahead and water. Maybe that ends up being only once per month or even longer depending on the time of year. Summer is more frequent than winter like with most plants. Thanks for watching and commenting 💚.

Thanks Tina!!!! My VSOH mother plant was a nice full pot but I actually prefer a smaller pot! I think it’s because when they are larger, it’s incredibly difficult to keep the vines from tangling up and becoming a big mess. It’s more manageable for me, and less stressful for me, when they are smaller 😊. I’m so glad you are enjoying my videos ☺️. You are such a sweetheart. Thanks for watching 💚💚💚.

@@haagendazs2384 hmmm….I’ve never tried water propping these but my guess would be maybe the water got too warm? I’ve had that happen before and I ended up with mushy roots. My prop jar was sitting above grow lights that were attached under the shelf it was sitting on so it got pretty warm.

I use sphagnum moss with a lot of my propagating but never with SOH. I feel like it would be too tedious switching it over to soil once it’s established with a root system. But maybe not.
@ofhismercy109

@The Pink Trellis I learned this butterfly technique and have used it and what I have found to be successful and easy is to pot up the butterflies with soil as the base and a layer of moss on top of the soil, then the cuttings laid out on top of the moss. Then you never have to transfer the growing cuttings over to another media, they just root into the (kept damp) moss then into the soil below. Fun! And I have my last SOH prop I did that way, haven't had to repot it yet, couple years on.....keeps it simple, and the moss keeps the soil from getting all over the little cuttings, a real solution. ❤
