Never knew you could root them in water! Will be trying this with my fuchsia "dollar princess" thanks!

Yes definitely try some cuttings in water. Having tried in water I think I will still go with rooting in compost though. Love Dollar Princess as a variety though.

@@prsnr42. They should be fine. You can always move them to a sheltered spot nearer the house, if planted in a container.

Hi Isaac, Thanks for watching and your message. Sorry if you have had issues trying to repair. I don’t have any special tools or knowledge on the products but I do approach each task on the basis of what is the worst that can happen. The machine doesn’t work as it should so if I try and fail then all it has cost me is some time. Succeed and I save money and learn for a next time. You can buy complete base units from Amazon, to save you hassle etc, I think they were less than £20. Hopefully you will give the repairs a chance. All the best 🛠️

Hi, my cuttings just wilted away. Had more success when I put a clear poly bag over the container which kept the leaves moist.

Hi. Thanks for watching and messaging me. That’s unusual for the cuttings to just collapse as they have for you. Reasons that that would happen is if the stem hadn’t been cut just below a set of leaves. Also if the cuttings are positioned in full sunlight in a hot location. If growing in a polythene bag works best for you then keep doing as you are doing and getting success from. Have a good day 🌸

@@diyhomeandgardening hi thanks for the reply. Will try more cuttings without the bag. I cut just below a node, which is usually one node down from a pair of leaves. Will give it another go, cheers, enjoy your day.

Thank you for the video! I just impulsively bought a discounted Fuchsia plant from a garden center and some parts are not doing so well. I know nothing about this beauty so doing some research. I have a bunch of propagation stations and was thinking about water prop and gifting them!

Thank you very much for this, I'm going to give it a try. I live in Chile, where it's summer now, so I hope this works! The only problem is that we have very cold nights here and daytimes are very windy. I have a very hot, greenhouse-like office. Would that be the best place for my cuttings?
@diyhomeandgardening

Cuttings done in compost or soil will be quicker. Place the cuttings in a more shaded position whilst they root so they don’t get scorched by the sun. The temperatures shouldn’t be a problem though.

Where do you put the glass with the cuttings in? How often should you change the water? Is tap water ok for cuttings?
@diyhomeandgardening
2 жыл бұрын
I just used tap water and changed it once a week. I kept the plants indoors in a bright but not sunny position so that they didn’t get scorched. In the garden in a shady area is fine too.

Question. The cuttings I have, have buds that have not blossomed yet. At first I thought this was a good idea but now I realize I got the wrong cuttings... Do they still have a chance? Thanks for reading
@diyhomeandgardening
2 жыл бұрын
Thanks for the message and question. Have the cuttings rooted or are you just about to use the flowering pieces as cutting material? I wasn’t quite sure. If they are already rooted then pick off the buds and flowers to allow the roots to develop. If planing to take cuttings then ideally use stems that don’t have any buds or flowers on then. If they do have some buds then remove them. Enjoy your growing. Just pick off the flowers

I have some cuttings in water but some don’t have leaves at all. Will they still grow roots in the water without leaves or are they done for?
@diyhomeandgardening
2 жыл бұрын
Good question. I’m not sure is the answer. I would still keep them in there to see what happens. I suspect they won’t do much but it’s worth trying. Take a few more cuttings that do have leaves on them. The leaves help the plants to photosynthesis and grow/develop.

At what stage do you pot them up?
@diyhomeandgardening
Жыл бұрын
Hi Julie. Thanks for watching and the question. Easy answer is that you pot the cuttings once they have a decent amount of root visible in the glass, with roots a few centimetres in length. Enjoy your gardening 🌺
