Love your enthusiasm! I've never seen anyone support a tree with chopsticks through the side of the container. Great idea!!

I've used that technique with many orchids. They do not like to be wobbly in their fir bark growing medium. And getting them chunks to arrange nicely is a challenge. Chopsticks to the rescue

Thanks Adam, I had no idea there was such a thing as anti transpirant. I've had success with putting my cuttings in a small pot, then inside a clear plastic bag. It's like a small greenhouse. That really helps keep the moisture in. But, it is kind of a pain to water them. Keep the videos coming! You're doing great!

I water from the bottom with my cutting with bags over the pots/cutting. I set them in a dish of water for 10,20 or 30min every couple of days depending on the temperature/weather and the amount of wholes in the bag. And remove the bag every 1 or 2 weeks to check on them.

Hello Adam, I've been watching your videos for a while and I'm really impressed by your expertise. Your videos are really strong. With some other YouToubers you see some things differently, so I say the roots are there in no time. You say it but it can take time, you have to be patient, I think that's very good for a beginner to know. VG Oldie👍

I loved this video today Adam!! I really loved hearing your excitement over finding all those magnificent roots! But please do keep us updated on the trees you are just growing out! I would appreciate seeing their progress too. And along those lines, can you do a tour of your bonsai bench and all your trees please?? I don't think I have any cypress growing in my yard. There are some trees that were here before we moved in 25 years ago, but I ripped all the front yard plants out and planted new stuff in about 15-20 years ago. BUT!!! I think my next door neighbor MUST have one!! I keep bothering this poor man for cuttings of his trees, LOL. He has a dwarf Japanese maple I have been trying to get to root for me for about a year now. No luck there, but now I will have to catch him to ask for cuttings from his cypress. LOL Thank you for another great video!!

Same here! I thought hinoki's are just fussy about rooting when I put the cuttings in inorganic stuff. I'll be changing that next year too.

I got my 1st Hinoki for my courtyard. Sadly, it looks very confusing, as it has 4 tops. I only need one but, I am afraid to cut on it. They are very expensive and very hard to find for sale. I love your show and very pleased that you are covering one of my favorite conifers.

Another great video. Do you have a Pseudolaryx? Or a golden larch I have one and it’s not doing the best, I keep it in the shade and it doesn’t really grow and if I put it in a more exposed area it burns. I’ve searched all over for care guides but I’ve found nothing

Another great video, can you tell me why you use pond baskets instead of bonsai training pot?
@notionbonsai

Hey thanks! Pond baskets offer better drainage and aeration from all the holes in it. The enhanced air circulation encourages the roots to grow more fibrous and dense.
