My blackberry limbs root at the buds all the time when they touch the ground. I just cut the limb off and put the rooted part in a container and give it away. I know it's upside down, but it'll put out new limbs for the next year since it is a two year plant and be upright for the new bush, lol. Thanks for sharing Daz!!! This is great!

Good job. I only learned recently that there is such a thing as thornless varieties and now have a baby blackberry growing. Hopefully by next season it’ll look as good as your original plant 👍🏼 I’m now looking for thornless raspberries to plant. I currently have the thorn variety growing, but I planted them in a place where it’s difficult to harvest all of the fruit. I have a new garden bed ready to fill when I find the thornless variety. Thanks for sharing. I enjoy learning more about how to grow yummy foods 😊🪴

G'day Sandra. Yes, it's funny because my father grew up on farm and blackberries were such a pest for them and here I am trying to grow as many as I can. That's obviously because these are thornless and less invasive. I have 3 raised beds of raspberries and the Summer bearing (single bearing ones) are thornless. My Autumn bearing ones (ever bearing) make me so itch and the tiny thorns can get stuck in my hands and get so annoying. I have a couple of raspberry videos that might be able to help explain them better if you need more info. Good luck with yours. Daz.

I had three different thornless blackberry varieties. One of them had pretty good production and some sweetness. One of them had loads and loads of berries, but were lacking sweetness. The third was deliciously sweet, but barely made a tiny crop as freezing weather arrived. So, I’m reevaluating. I think I’m going to get some completely different varieties.

@MyAussieGardenKitchen
2 жыл бұрын
G'day Michele. You cold save some money and leave it in there and just add to it with some nice compost from the nursery and I like to use a blood and bone fertilizer too and mix all that into the existing soil. By keeping the existing soil, you don't need to spend money on new stuff to fill the bed again. Hope that makes sense. Don't forget to mulch too. I said previously that I thought you were in California for some reason, but I'm sure you said Texas in a most recent review. Mulch will keep the moisture in the soil and help with the sun and will also keep the weeds down. All the best. Daz.

G'day. I've tried with raspberries and it has been real hit and miss. With raspberries, just look out for the babies that come off the roots and gently pick them out and transplant them. Lovely! What is the direction you have your trellis lined up? North/south? ❤ we are installing grapes 🍇 in our yard and I liked to see you adding blackberries to the grapes
@MyAussieGardenKitchen
3 ай бұрын
G'day! Yes, I've opted for as close to North-South as I can get, so the sun goes up one side, over the top and down the other side and it has worked out well. I've actually had to shade the row of blackberries, as the Aussie sun was drying the fruit and burning leaves in Summer. It really is fun to walk through and pick blackberries on one side and turn and pick grapes on the other. Absolutely worth it! If you have time, I have more recent videos, where you see both sides fully grown and fruiting. Good luck with yours and I really hope it all works out for you. Daz.

@MyAussieGardenKitchen
11 ай бұрын
G'day! Some nurseries and online stores will sell peanuts to grow, but you can actually use ones from the supermarket or health food store if you do one thing... Make sure they are raw peanuts in the shell that have not been roasted or treated in any way. That is what I did with my initial peanuts. I then save and plant some of the grown crop for next time. I think I have been cursed on the black berry front , I took some wild thorney black berry cuttings and got those going and have them in pots for about 5 years now , I have pruned them a few year ago but not got a single berry from them , any ideas as to why ? Cheers live in the central west NSW. If that helps.
@MyAussieGardenKitchen
8 күн бұрын
G'day! Sorry for the slow reply. Blackberries usually fruit on the cane in the second year of growth, so if you pruned them a few years ago, they really should have fruited. The wild thorny ones are usually prolific growers. Do you think they are stressed in the pots at all? Lack of water or too big for the pots now? Other than that, I'm not really sure why. I hope this helps and good luck. Daz.
@fishmut

@@MyAussieGardenKitchen …thank you for your reply , I will follow up on your suggestions, very possible one of those factors could be the culprit , definitely has been in the pot along time , watering was ok but maybe the soil is deficient or lacking vigure, i will de pot it and have a good look at it , somehow I over looked those things , I am not much of a gardener and typically I do everything the hard way for some reason .
