I took all the healthy stems from a neglected pothos plant my parents had and planted them atop of my axolotl's 75g tank so that just the bottom of the cutting would be submerged. What do you know, they began rooting!! Bought another pothos plant to add more to it as well as to plant in my 40g. Highly recommend doing this for the benefit of extra, natural filtration as well as how beautiful it looks. Also great for helping new plants to grow in general if you happen to have an aquarium haha

Keeping your plants sterile is a good way to prevent rot. Try 1:1 water and alcohol in a spray bottle before placing in clean rainwater

Yeah I’ve heard pothos gives out a sort of rooting hormone into the water that encourages the root growth of other plants

any tips for root rot? mine always rot when propagated in water even though i treat and trim with peroxide
@thehowtoduo
Жыл бұрын
Change the water at least once a week & make sure the leaves aren’t touching the water. Is it getting enough indirect sunlight/warmth? Cold can cause rot. I also find that cuttings from a thicker vine do better than thin ones. Hope that helps! 🪴❤️

I have a single vine mother plant I'm trying to fill out. I have about 12 cuttings (no less than 3 nodes per cutting) i thought I did everything right EXCEPT 10 or so grew a new vine with no new roots😅 what am I doing wrong? I planted one of the cuttings that started a new vine but it died as I suspected because it had no roots.

Try one node per cutting. Then the plant can direct all its energy to that one node. 🌱🪴❤️

Could you explain the reasoning behind not changing the water, especially since many other videos on YT recommend doing so? Just curious as I propagated my first pothos for the very first time today. :)
@jessicahines3929
Ай бұрын
@@aashkasethi8359 I was told that the plant actually adds nutrients to the water. Just add water as they grow. If the water gets to cloudy then you change it.
From what I've read and seen other YT explainers say, you aren't supposed to change out the water b/c the plant puts out rooting hormone into the water, so if you change it, you slow the rooting process and increase the likelihood of root rot.

Hi friend! You could try giving it some fertiliser? Usually when plants stop growing its because they don't have enough of one of the basics- sunlight water or nutrients. They're focusing more on conserving energy than growing. Good luck to you and your plant babies!

I started propagating in march. Where I am, I guess it just wasn’t warm enough. But same. Healthy leaves. Happy. Now the roots are shooting out so fast. They know their seasons!!
@jessicab4991

Well, it also helps if you don't start them in too big of a pot .. I think the one used in the video was a bit big for how small the roots of the cuttings were.. I let them get more roots before planting in soil also... I would of put all those cuttings she had into a pot probably half the size of what she used if not a third of the size. My golden came with like 6 starts in it and it was in around a 4 inch pot and it threw leaves out left and right. If the plant doesn't have to work so hard to fill the roots out in the soil in a giant pot, it will focus on leaf growth instead.
