This video shows the basic teardown and cleaning of a Remington Wingmaster 870, 12 gauge shotgun which should do just fine for the occasional shooter to prolong the quality of your gun. If you have gone out more than 20 times I would recommend a full teardown and cleaning.
Materials used:
-Moisture displacing lubricant (hopps no.9) keep parts moving and not rusting
-Gun cleaning solvent, (hopps no.9) dissolves grime, make sure to remove before applying lubricant
-Wirebrush with correct gauge size (12ga) and rod the length of the barrel.
-Square cotton cleaning patches
-Microfiber cloth
Optional materials:
-Tooth brush (standard and metal bristols) helps remove buildup
-Patch pusher
You should get in the habit of cleaning your gun after every use and before longterm storage. *For prolonged storage use more oil.
