SOAP SUDS BOMB !!!! hey airtex thanks for your time , i just want everyone to know of the possibility that soap suds mixed with gas fumes is a recipe for a perfectly atomized burn ratio..... boom. so make sure you don't use any arcing devices near it , fan lights hair dryer steel tools better paranoid than paralyzed (i still wash my tanks with LOW sudsing soap)

Hmm... That small amount of cleaning is marginal at best, although it conveys a general idea. I think you should make it clear that the cleaning process should be far more thorough than your video suggests.

In some cases that removing the fuel tank is very difficult, some people say that removing and cleaning the strainer and filling up with 1qt of ATF would clean well too. Are they correct? Thanks for the video!

Not sure why anyone would recommend pouring in oil as that wouldn't clean anything lol. If you want to use a fuel cleaner like MMO that's fine but oil is not a good idea

Removing a gas tank is not difficult. I’m rebuilding a 98 fire explorer and dropped the fuel tank twice. Just make sure you remove and old fuel before you drop the tank, it makes it much lighter in weight. Just put a piece of 2x4 on a car jack and lower it down once you remove the 3 bolts

My suggestion is # 7 or 8 Sodium hydroxide, 2-4 oz's crystalline, add into 3-5 gal of hot water, pour carefully with large funnel into tank. If tank has a lot of varnish, add a few extra oz's of lye and small glass marbles. If tank is aluminum, use ammonia. No scrubbing needed.

A simple solution of mild detergent and water is really all that is needed to clean a tank. Yes, there are other processes but for most this procedure will work just fine without using caustic material.

@@AirtexFuelPumps Detergents won't budge "varnish", the polymeric substance created from gasoline in tanks of vehicles sitting idle for ages. Even without much oxygen present, this still happens thanks to "auto-oxidation", helped by catalytic action of free metal ions etc. Strong bases otoh will saponify varnish, creating a water soluble soap that washes out easily with water.

No question is stupid, while it's been a year anyone else that finds this comment is dawn is perfect for this. The old saying a LITTLE goes a LONG way should be used here though, and make sure it's fully washed out before drying and putting fuel inside.

you don't leave the tank full of water, you empty it out and either blow the tank out with compressed air or let it air dry overnight. bad advice from a mechanic- SO typical these days. I bet your customers end up buying a lot of unnecessary parts because of your ignorance.

I can't believe an alleged adult thinks that you cannot dry a fuel tank after cleaning. It simply defies logic. Suggesting someone replace a fuel tank because you don't know that water evaporates is true incompetence- or just gouging your customers for more money. Is it greed or not knowing 3rd grade science?
