What is the brand name of the mylar bag you held up at the 1:50 mark? I've had many come bagged in mylar when purchased on ebay, but I have yet to find that particular style of mylar at sites like Bags Unlimited or BCW.

What about the natural oils on your hands? Any collector of old and antique comics, books, or other papers should use cotton gloves or just make sure your hands are thoroughly washed. In other words, you should not handle your collectible comics after eating Kentucky fried chicken. ;-)

Yeah I got these comics recently and no matter how carefully I try to open the bag and take the scotch tape off I mess it up. Except for one which is probably one of those mylar bags that has a sticky thing already on it.

man I've looking for this answer for years lol I've heard both was, bought older comics with shinny side on the comic and had the image imprinted on it and the other way too so who knows I just still put the shinny side on just because I think it's more of how long it sits in the bag with the board, but I you find a definitive answer please tell me lol

Subsequent printings do not factor into the value of a 1st Printing. Justice League #1 in first printing can fetch a decent value in the right place already, despite 8 printings. Although real value for New 52 would be in variant covers. I saw a Batman #4 New 52 variant going for $400 in Midtown Comics Times Square over the summer.

I know, right. People should realize this. Now maybe villains month comics may worth something down the road but as for everything else, not worth a dime (I'm exaggerating but only slightly). I don't keep my comics in bags at all but I'm going to put my villains month 3d covered comics in bags because they're the only comics that are worth it. As for the other comics, I doubt they'll get ruined; at most, they'll just collect dust.

I think that milars are too tight to put with a bag. Even if this is not true, i think it would be pointless. The main advantage of Milar is, as he said, acidically inert. So if you put in in a bag first you achieve nothing. I am not sure what happens if you put it into mylar first and then into a bag. BUT I think that it is not cost effective to have both milar and bag. Again I am not a pro so don't quote me. I hope i helped.

@mundaney Lol Are you being sarcastic or is that a serious comment? You know those comics arent going to be worth anything much higher than the cover price right? Maybe of you save them for your kid's kids they might go up to 20 bucks or something but seeing as how all of DC #1 issues sold out, im pretty sure everyone that collects comics got their copy and DC made 2nd prints of all #1 issues so that will prevent the price from going up . Plus there are digital copies of them aswell.

There is no way to protect your comics unless you put them on a slab or something similar. So you got the back protected but what about t he front? Not only is it exposed ,it's fragile to any damage done from fingernails, humidity, ticks, etc. It's a waste of money trying to fix all that mess.

i have like 30-40 comics from the mid 80s through early 2000s i got them like 10 years ago when i was a kid. So through the years i was never into comics and they pretty much got treated bad. But after all that their suprisingly in acceptible condition. Im getting into comics latley and im only getting trades. I live in a non climate controlled shed with all my comics stacked in a shoebox. Non are bagged or anything. This shed gets extreamly hot during the day. Help me?

John, please don't use those old 4m Mylars as a typical example of Mylars. They used an imperfect top design which allows air to enter. Nowadays most serious collectors instead use MyLites by Ernie Gerber's company. They are also Mylar and provide a nice 2m protection, with a proper fold down top. If a comic is so worthless that you'd feel like storing it in an inferior poly, then you shouldn't have wasted your good money on it in the first place.
@dukeanumberone7750

+MrEdWeirdoShow Right , because everyone should have the exact same budget and tase in what they collect. How boring would it be to collect or be interested in different things? Also if you really want to talk about comics as an investment DCA your supplies using those 5-7 years protection that a PE bag offers gives you more money to put towards more comics. Which have the ability to increase in value over the course of those same years, versus the bagging which wont accrue value. If we are talking high end books I am pretty sure anyone who collects high end / cgc only has a decent grip on storage.
