I’ve watched a lot of videos over the years about harvesting/pruning basil, but this is by far the best explanation that I’ve seen! I’ve only ever heard to prune above the nodes, but wasn’t identifying them properly. Thank you for not only including how, but WHY! I didn’t realize that I’ve actually been killing some of my plants.

This is great, Thanks for the tips. I'd love a video like this on cilantro. I have a hell of a time keeping cilantro alive. When I see blooming start, i clip the blooms quickly to keep foliage growth. this works with most greens, but not so much with the cilantro.

Thanks for the basil tip. My basil has been mature for weeks, but my toms are still green. This will help me stretch out my fresh basil so I can have it with my fresh, sloooowly ripening tomatoes.

So glad I watched your video because my friend gave me a basil plant in a pot and there are so many flowers. Anyway, I pruned the plant following this video. Looking for "growth points" etc before pruning. So easy to follow and educational haha love it! Thank you so much 💚💚💚

I low stress train my basil and my Jalapenos. Top them twice and bend the main tops sideways and tie off. The all the shoots grow vertically creating a canopy of shoots. The mature plants are basically shrubs when they grow out. We grow Thai basil and eat it a lot. The jalapeño plant grew has over 50 peppers and still setting fruit.

This was terrific. I needed the help. I particularly love lemon pea pesto. I follow an Ina garden recipe, adding a bag of defrosted peas and a whole lemon. Everyone loves it! Sweet from the peas and fresh from the lemon. It usually needs a bit more olive oil.

Nice video. This process is similar to how marijuana farmers suggest pruning to get a bushier plant with more flower sites. You also mentioned this basil pruning process works for generating clones. However, with the tomato plants you want to remove the sucker, and not the "new growth sites". I use this same process with aquarium plants to get a thicker, bushier looking plant. Since this process works on so many different plants is this something that will work on ALL plants that branch, or only certain types of plants? Sorry I am not sure of the proper verbiage to word my question. What I am trying to ask, is this something you can say usually works for "X" type plants, or some other qualifying factor. So I know when to prune, or create clones, in this style versus just cutting back random growth, or like in tomatoes to remove suckers. Also, the shirts look great.

I'd call this creatively the "Chandelier pruning". I do this with mint (about each one or two nodes) and it works nicely. It's more like a 1,3ing. Thyme responds also similar. I guess, there are many responding like these. Thank you for your vids, fellow human. Thank you to the plants, too! (I hope they don't feel pain.) Ah. Bees - there's also Anis Ysop (sorry, using the german name for it). Now, there's a bee friend! Have good harvests!

I live in Michigan so our cooler seasons aren't good for growing basil. However, is it possible to continually grow basil indoors even in winter? Question 2: Should I allow some of my basil plants to go to flower in order to collect the seeds from them? Do I collect basil seeds like I collect lettuce seeds: Put the flowers in a paper bag and shake it to release the seeds from the flowers? Thank you!

You even can use the cut off branches to start new plants as clones. Just put them in water and they will start rooting again and start a new plant. No seeds necessary.

Hi, new to your channel and your videos are great. Just finished my tomato lower/lean trellis. Question about basil. I seem to constantly find eaten holes in my basil leaves and have had no luck locating the pest that is responsible or a good product that may help. Any organic products you recommend to keep the basil loving pests away? Thanks in advance.

Looking for some help! I have a small but long woody Thai Basil plant (almost a foot and half of wood growth) then the tops of green leaves (only about 4 leaves) How do I trim this guy? Can I cut into the woody base to trim him back? I don't want to kill it but he's getting too tall to be supported any more. Thanks in advance!!

The pruner in your hand sure does look like Corona, not Felco. I've used Corona for over 30 years, and they are my favorite. I don't care for the spring mechanism on the Felco. To each their own.
