Knowing how to prune your clematis is the key to successful flowering. It is SO easy to make the mistake and prune it incorrectly. (I have been that person)
I have been a lover of Clematis for many years and have grown it in the last 3 of our gardens.
Understanding which type of Clematis you are growing, and which "Group" it is in is KEY to getting maximum flowers and not making a pruning mistake!
I am guilty of having a pruning mistake. I was bought a Clematis by my children and it had no label or tag and I wasn't sure which it was. It came to Spring and I cut it back as I did my other Group 3 Clematis! Uh oh. This resulted in NO flowers that year and only foliage. I then realised it was a group 1 Clematis Alpina-Blue dancer, which in fact flowers early Spring and requires NO PRUNING. It flowers on the previous years growth.
I hope this video might be helpful and I can't wait to show you them as they wake up in a few months time and start to put on a wonderful display.
