one more comment because I am really happy. Thank you for putting that material online, as a kid I always wanted to learn how to go as long as possible with my board without kicking the ground. This video and the links are perfect for me, within 20 minute I went from knowing what I wanted to learn to knowing how to say it with words ( pumping) and finding great material...MERCI!

One of the greatest obstacles to learning how to pump is getting over the fear of how much of a dick you will look throwing your arms around like a drowning breakdancer while you ride a giant child's toy through the streets. Once you get over that it's all gravy. And if you can do it wearing pink then you have achieved Jedi level awesomosity.

I just turned 53. I got an electric board about 6 months ago because I've had a bad knee for a lot of years now and can't kick push my old longboard without feeling sharp pain. After riding the electric for a while and watching skate videos, I came across this video along with some LDP vids. Vlad inspired me to learn to pump. I put a waterborne surf adapter on my old sec 9 longboard and was able to pump almost instantly with this video (and the music) running through my head! Now I have a G-bomb bracket board and ride 5-7 miles 2 or 3 times a week and just pumped 11.25 miles the other day! Side note... I can pump for hours with minimal pushing without any pain in my knee. I can't get enough all thanks to this old video. Thanks Vlad. What a teacher!

Same setup, except the reverse pin trucks on my sec 9 board won't fit the waterborne adaptor. Gotta get regular trucks, i guess. I'm super excited to try it out. 😆 Thanks for the detail on the joints. Hope you're doing great. Your review is excellent news. I'm feeling them start to ache and i know it's coming.

I happen to know Vlad [DC Crew baby!!] and he is a fast skater. The flailing arms thing can be tricky to pull off and make look cool. I like to think I have it down with my own style and when Vlad is on full Death Ray running cones he looks like a shark heading for a baby seal. When did a slalom board become a longboard? I was in a comic shop not long ago with my Turner in hand. It has a 16 inch wheelbase. That's tiny folks. The gal at the counter said "Hey, nice longboard". I said :What's so long about it?" I explained it was NOT a longboard and she insisted it was since I had the "Jelly" wheels on it. I had no idea Smuckers made slalom wheels. It has a set of Tunnel STR Tarantulas on it. I finally let it go and continued shopping. Yes, I was purposely misunderstanding her, but I get this a lot when I skate my slalom boards which is almost all of the time i skate. I often skate down to Fells Point here in Baltimore to get excercise and other skaters give me the oddest looks when they see what I'm riding. The comments range from thumbs up to, what the hell is that? I even let a kid try it and he tried ti kick flip it!!! Which pissed me off sine it was a vintage Turner cut-away Sims team board that I bought off Ed Economy. Let's raise slalom awareness.folks. Skate on Vlad!!!!!!!!!!

I remember seeing this video years ago, and thought, "that's pretty cool." Then forgot all about it. Fast forward to last year when I got a dropthrough longboard for my 53rd birthday. Tried and tried to pump, but with only moderate success. I'd extend my time between pushes, but would lose more and more speed till I'd eventually have to push again. Last week I got a waterborne surfskate adapter thinking that would be the magic feather. It wasn't. Stumbled across this video again, and thought I'd give it a quick go. THAT was the magic feather: decent speed and for the 1st time was actually GAINING speed. This after just a quick 5 min session before I had to go back inside to fix the family dinner. I can only imagine what will happen with some actual practice. Thank you for this video :D

Old video. But it simplified things so much now. I taught myself how to pump after watching one of my friends do it literally a day before he moved away based off trying to copy his body movement and just tweaking my board. I ended up with a combination of method 1 & 2 but it works well for me because i can stay pretty loose and relaxed, and really put my weight into every movement. But without the exaggerated arm movement that are used here for teaching.
