Yes I have tried several methods of repotting with much success, I usually just do like you’re doing with repotting them before I bring them in to encourage the blooming. I did see a video that you might like to try as well putting the roots in warm water when you want to wake them up again about as many as eight hours before repotting. I will keep watching your video

I have put them into dormancy, but put whole bulb in their containers, in paper box after cutting down green leaves, 0ct.6 to Dec 6, my first year. I bought one in wax , to keep me away opening others up. Good luck 10/18/2023

_Not necessary to remove the bulbs from pots each year. They can grow up to 3 years in the same soil, before it's depleted of nutrient value.

This is true. We live in Durban South Africa and we get very mild 3 month winters here. My Amarillas has been thriving outside for years with no intervention from me.

I leave my amaryllis in their pots to grow leaves after they are done blooming. In the spring I plant them in the garden or a flowerbed. I prefer that to leaving them in pots outside - one less watering job! I dig them in the fall and store them in a brown paper sack in a dark basement cupboard. I have cut off the foliage. I take them back when they start growing. Some will bloom, some have not. It all depends on how big the bulb got to be.

Oh no. You need pots with drainage holes!

What if its still mild during the day here in New England in September, even in a dark closet that pretty much stays the temperature as outside. Can you wait past September to bring it in if its still mild out?

I'm going to try it today with my two plants today. I took them out of dormant stage about 2 months ago and did nothing to them. Left in same pot, put outside, & all I've gotten is long leaves. Hopefully with your guidance it will work. I'll put in paper bags today and bring them out of the cool place and pot in soil the first of December. Thanks for your info

Do you care for them the same in southern states, like Florida?

All dormancy works only in the cold. If one puts them only in the dark but in warm weather, they sprout only leaves & no flower buds are produced. That's why I put my bulbs in the fridge for 6-8 weeks.

@@Oregonyardening I live in sunny Malaysia; so no cool weather to depend on. But in your case, I think Oregon is cold enough in the winter for dormancy.

Good to know! I live in Las Vegas and even with air conditioning I'd doubt its cold enough for them. Thanks!

I received an amaryllis bulb from my sister2 years ago. I kept it in the pot it grew leaves. I'm the spring I put it outside in partial shade sun. it grew 5 long leaves. The leaves yellowed and died off. In the fall I brought it in and was going to put it in the basement, but it started to grow a leaf from a baby bulb and a flower stalk from the mother. I unpotted it and put it it was full of roots. I transplanted it into an 8" pot to make room for he baby bulb. The flower stalk grew to about 2 1/2' tall and had 4 beautiful blooms. I'll wait to see if the leaves come up and will put it back outside in the spring.
