$100 to change both headlights at your dealership? My Toyota dealership wanted $500! The claimed that I also needed a software update for my headlights! No thank you. I am going to replace them myself. However I have HID headlights and i think they are a little more difficult to replace. I have large hands so that means that I will have to loosen bumper cover, and fender cover in addition to the headlight housings to gain access. I still love my 2008 prius. Its a fun to drive!

Yah, how’d that go? 👀 The HIDs are quite a different situation, and process. Did This video actually help that at all, was it relevant? Or not really. I thought you had to take off the whole front bumper essentially, in order to get in there and take the assemblies off to change the HIDs. What I want to do though, is use the kit that lets you replace the HIDs with LEDs, so I don’t need to use those in the future. Because, complete unnecessary expensive headache. 🙄 🥴 I haven’t found a video that shows how to do that though… just a Prius chat thread. …🧐

Why not pull the bulb housing? 1st timer will struggle with this approach

Which type of headlight were you replacing? Was this the HID (xenon) or the tungsten? I like your process better than others I've seen which required a lot more dismantling of the front under-hood components, but that won't do me any good if this doesn't apply to the HID headlights.

They’re HID, but make sure to get a compatible sets of headlights.

@@ViratPatelYT the ones I got look like yours with the same plug, but I"m curious about the other connectors I've seen on the HID to LED swap videos-they did not reconnect the wire from the ballast because the LED doesn't require the higher power that the HID needs. What is your thought/experience with that?

@@thomastwigg3535I think different cars have different connectors, that’s the difference. You need all three prongs connected

The car in this video is equipped with the halogen style of light bulb which does not require removing the bumper/headlights. Some Prius models came from the factory with HID headlights which have a different procedure (longer) for removing them. This is why the videos are different. You will need to check to see what kind of bulbs yours has before buying bulbs and replacing them.

Oh, these are HIDs?? wow. Then maybe there’s hope. I wonder if it’s as easy on the other side, or if it’s less space you have to work with… In any case, what I’m wanting to do is ultimately replace the whole thing with a DIY LED option, I don’t want to deal with HIDs again, or their expense! 🥴 Haven’t found the right KZitem video yet for that though.

ABS Pump. Normal for Gen2 prius. Only worry if it starts making that noise often.... sign the pump, or system, having issues.

@@JosephKimJoeyBigTime no it wasn't hard at all. I used a small 8mm ratcheting wrench. You will have to remove the black plastic panel which isn't too hard, additionally on the passenger side, there is a little plastic dusting that will have to be removed to get to the adjustment nut. just look up a video for how to adjust the headlights. It's not hard. And if you think it's not moving, it is, just stick with it. I Pulled up to a gas station that had cinder block wall which was perfect because it gave me lines to adjust my beams against.

Nice, but problem you'll end up with moisture in lens housing. and LED module will have thermal issues. 1. The boot no longer seals headlight. With the LED used in this video, you just have the three skinny wires going through no longer creating a seal. See time stamp 14:42. One option is seal with some silicone goop. 2. This is a fan cooled LED unit, but the boot will trap the air, especially if you seal it from moisture as I suggested above. The result will be a cooked LED light... the hotter it gets, the dimmer it'll be and lifespan will be very short. 3. If you do go ahead and put LED in your Gen2 Prius, for the LOVE OF GOD only do it if your lens is clear. If they're fogged like shown in this video, you're just blinding other drivers. My $.02 I have a Gen2 Prius... decided to go back to halogen after struggling with several LED options.

@user-dc2jz4oh7r - OK so I’m confused. Are there three kinds? Halogen, HID, and LED? Or is halogen, the same as HID? I have HID, much to my chagrin, wouldn’t have bought this used car if I knew that! -and I want to convert it to LED, because the cost of the HID, for the bulbs & for the replacement, and the complication of it all… is insane. Get me out! 😫
