Great video, pretty much the same way I do it. I like to spray a little line conditioner on the two fingers pinching the line as I'm filling the spool though, gives it a nice even coating and the line doesn't get nearly as much friction heat.

Very glad I bumped into your channel! I was so busy working all the money earnings years that I never really had time to do very much fishing and what I did was all salt water mainly casting nets in Florida. In my defense I just got off work at 6 AM and worked all night here in Central Alabama and picked up a like new rod and reel for $75 off craigslist that met your basic criteria and maybe even a little bit better than the bottom end starter. I felt very confident and came home with some Trilene fishing line that the seller gave me. So I’ve found this video again, saved in a folder, and couldn’t help myself but want to put some line on the spool. watched your video three times intently, made the knots, and remembered to flip the bail first. I was pretty damn proud of myself until I realized I forgot to thread the line through the pole! I just laughed and was better tying the knots the second time. Now I know where the name of the channel came from.

Tips: 1- you can wear a cloth glove in your rod-holding hand in this case right hand instead of having the line burning through your flesh. 2- It really helps when I submerge the main line reel in a bucket full of fresh water while filling in the spinning reel. The fresh water would create a little bit of resistance that helps my line get reeled tighter. Thanks for the lovely video and the brilliant background.

Memory can be bad when there is to much and in this case if the line keeps it's memory to the spool that it came off of. That spool is much larger than the reel's spool and you want the line to be conformed to the smaller spool on the reel to prevent fly-off. I only treated the line once with the KVD Line & Lure. I tried to treat it again towards the end but the line was too far gone. I am still amazed at the results.

I too am still confused. Stick with me for a minute. You're standing there spooling the line on. The reel is spinning counter-clockwise (if you're looking at the reel from the back), and the line is coming off the spool counter-clockwise. That's all well and good, but if your reel is spinning one way, the line is actually coming onto the reel the other way. If your reel is spinning counter-clockwise, your line is coming on clockwise, which is the opposite direction it's coming off the spool. Am I missing something here?

It's hard to tell. I turn the fish ID off because many times it really limbs coming off a brush pile that it reads as fish. With a 90° water temp the bass are searching for oxygen. When water gets hot it looses it's ability to hold oxygen. The bass move deep into cooler water or they go in search of live vegetation or moving water. They also can become lethargic like they do in winter.

Putting the filled spool in hot tap water for a few minutes is a good idea. Wound on the correct way, to eliminate some twists that may occur, because you're going from a larger spool to a much smaller spool that can add twists.

An added tip is when you put fresh line on, when you get to the lake let out about 100 feet to 150 feet and let line drag behind the boat with no lure or weight. This will get twists out and will give a natural stretch to the line. Then you cast with no birdnests.

How do feel about tying two lines together? Does the knot cause issues going through the eyes? What kind of knot would you recommend for that purpose? I had my local tackle shop load my reel for me but they didn’t put near enough on it, it was a full 1/4 to 1/2 inch short of the edge of the spool. Is it okay to tie more of exactly the same line to it and fill it the rest.of the way?

You put the filler spool with the line in the warm water first the on the reel that way the line get the memory from the reel spool . But do it while the line is in warm water . Done it that way for 30 plus years and have had no problem on how the line comes off the filler spool

Thanks for this video. Very helpful for a newbie like me. I just loaded line for the first time on my two fishing rods/reels. I thought it went well but then I realized that the line is very loose on the spool of the reel. I am not sure what I should have done to make sure it wound tight on the spool. Is there a way to keep more tension somehow? And I am not sure what to do now that it is already on the reel. Is there a way to tighten it up? Or do I need to scrap it and start over? Thanks
