Let’s say that you want to change the width of a column to automatically fit the data in cells. To do this, make sure you are on the home tab at the top of the spreadsheet. Next, you left click on the column you want to change the width of, so the entire column is highlighted, in this example, column A.
Next, you go over to the format icon above the cells section at the top of the spreadsheet, and left click on it. A drop down box will appear. In this box, go down to Autofit column width and left click on it. And now excel has fitted the column width to the longest data in the column.
You can also do this for multiple columns at one time. Left click and hold on the first column that you want excel to autofit, as you see here, and drag over to the last column you want to autofit, then release the click and hold. Next, do the same steps, left click on the format icon, then left click on Autofit column width in the drop-down box, and excel has autofitted the multiple columns.
