My wife has been hypothyroid on levothyroxin since 2002. She’s steadily gained 2-3 pounds per year despite constant exercise and dieting. She had almost given up. 4 months ago, she started intermittent fasting on a 16/8 hour fast/eat schedule. Combined with increased walking, 7500 to 10,000 steps a day, she’s down two dress sizes and getting into clothes she hasn’t fit into in years.

I suffer from Hypothyroidism and it was discovered about 16 years ago. I am just putting on the weight no matter what I try or do. I'm in fact obese now 95kg and am only 5ft 1in tall. So am carrying all this weight that I have never had before in my entire life, I'm 67. In the past my weight used to fluctuate and go up and down but now it's just going up since beginning of Covid. I am on Eltroxin 100microgms per day. I would like to try a T3 or a T2 as you have mentioned in your video. It will definitely give me a kick start. So I'm asking if you could give me a couple of brand names for T3 and brand names for T4. I would also like to try the a GLP 1 Agonist if I cannot obtain any T3 or T2. Please may you also give me brand name for that. I would not do the 2 together tho. But would like to try the options. I thank you for you very interesting videos. I never say much but listen a lot. I live in South Africa where we may not always be able to get American brand names of meds. So I would need the names in order to find them in South Africa. The weight is just piling on, no matter what I do and I cannot fit into my clothes and I'm getting very embarrassed when people look at me and tell me I'm very very fat. It's not due to over eating and I don't have a sweet tooth. I need to start somewhere. Thank you very much and thanks for your very interesting videos. Help!!

I honestly think that prolonged fasting killed my thyroid. During those fasts, I got all the classic hypothyroidism symptoms. But I pressed on because we humans sometimes don't listen to our intuition. I am now dependant on T4 and T3. The biggest factor in shutting down was thyroid was indeed fasting. The second was low carbs. I would get severe hypothyroid symptoms when low carbing. Perhaps not to the same extent as fasting, but close enough. If you are curious about my symptoms while low carbing and especially during the fasts... Here are a couple. Mental slowness, slow reflexes, cold extremities, cold intolerance, low temperature, low pulse, edema, swallowing trouble etc... Nourish and love yourself and always honor your intuition.

If you overdo thyroid, your liver can make you hypo, triggering palpitations. Go slow with T3 and always take with food. Eggshell calcium and high blood vitamin D levels also protect me from palpitations.

I tried the intermittent fasting and lost 16 pounds in 16 weeks. But due to friends husband dying and helping her plus my apartment renovation (while living in it) I gained back the 16 pounds quickly. Mainly I was craving dairy and eggs. I asked my doctor why and he said " I don't know. Do a plant based diet and come back in 6 months." So I asked Google. I had all the symptoms of iodine deficiency!!!!! So I changed my multi vitamins to a brand with 100% of DV iodine. Now after 1 week I am feeling fantastic. I have recently lowered my thyroid medication because I was overmedicated. I didn't know that overmedication symptoms can be the same as Hypo symptoms. After 3 weeks of lower medication, my resting heart rate lowered 15 points. 85 to 70. I recently saw studies about how a higher resting heart rate causes problems with blood sugar levels and predisposes people to diabetes. I would love to see a video about these studies. Maybe one reason thyroid patients are gaining weight and becoming insulin-resistant is because we keep increasing our medication when we shouldn't. Cuz, let's get real, it's easier to take more medication than it is to eat better and exercise consistently. We all know to watch for Hyper symptoms like heart palpitations, anxiety, and insomnia, but there are not a lot of people talking about overmedication causing Hypo symptoms, including fatigue, weight gain, and hair loss. Love to hear your thoughts about it.

Overmedication (if that goes about levothyroxine) will drive you into hyper, but not hypo. Fatigue and hair loss are the symptoms for both - hyper and hypo, weight gain is mostly on hypo. However, if one is pretty sedentary and consuming more calories than spending, weight gain would manifest in both cases. I was overmedicated, had to lower my dose and while in ‘hyper’ mode lost even more hair than in ‘hypo’ (literally had baldish patches), still had same fatigue issues, brain fog and memory/concentration problems, adding on top tremor and crazy cramps in my ankles. Oh well! :)

@@ljezebel1I had exactly the same thing. I spoke with naturopath who agrees with me - I’d been on a mostly high fibre autoimmune protocol raw diet for prior year which actually helped me a lot (inc lowered TPO antibodies), but I wanted to reintroduce meat to work toward carnivore eventually… and I rapidly gained weight, hunger went up (my leptin is 116!), my TPO went up 1000 and felt rubbish. I did an Organic Acid Test (OAT) which showed I was not digesting and assimilating fats, esp animal fat. This could be due to multiple factors me and my nattupath believe - pathogens and compromised liver not able to produce enough bile due to toxins (so keep detoxing and try taking Ox Bile or L-Carnitine), and also not having the bacteria in the gut to assimilate animal protein/fat… So I’m going to incorporate the bile salts and very slowly reintroduce meat again to allow my body to adapt to the change and see how we go. I know several years ago I did amazing on both paleo and AIP diets and managed to get insulin resistance under control and moderate weight. I’m 47 now so things are changing and I had breast implant leaking years ago so my body has lots of health issues - but I’m so proactive and learned so much. The best and easiest way to lose weight even with thyroid disease is breathing. Not just regular breathing but a specific type of breathing like Body Flex breathing will help you to drop pounds fast no matter what you’re eating. I recommend eating a healthy, whole food diet but I’ve lost 18 pounds in a few weeks eating total garbage by breathing. Fat is expelled through the lungs. Compared to sweating, urine and poop. The lungs expel the most fat. There’s a study that was done years ago in Sweden that proved this. Look up body flex breathing here on KZitem. I promise it works. Lately I’ve been doing a simple breathing technique where you inhale for a count of four, then exhale for a count of 7. In through the nose, out through the nose with your mouth closed. Do ten in the morning and ten at night and see what happens. Also, arm swings. I’m not sure why it works but it does. I wake up slimmer each morning with a flatter belly and slimmer arms. I’d have to find a video showing how to do it but it’s easy and it works. I do this a little differently by coming up past my ears then forcefully throwing my arms all the way down and back past my hips. Kind of like snapping them back but not so much that it hurts. You’ll get a lot out of this by doing ten each night before bed and ten when you get up out of bed. It’s quick and easy to do. kzitem.info/news/bejne/1p2Hy5loqKVkfWUsi=46dKoRtsVRo6ntwL

I had to start really slow with HITT. After Covid, I have really poor lung function. I just did some standing HIT knee raises, but was just paying attention to my breathing. I made it to 20 seconds before my breathing started changing. By 30 sec I had to stop. So, I did it again later in the day. Again, 20 seconds in, couldn’t breathe. So. I started just paying attention to my breathing and stopped when it changed. 20 seconds, over daily 1-9x depending on day, within a week I was up to 1.5 min before breath changed, next week was up to 3 minutes and eventually, over 2 months, I was able to walk easily to the store 1 km away. I just stopped if my breathing changed. By 4 months I was able to walk 2km without stopping, with only 1 stop after a hill. Pay attention to your body and don’t do it just because ‘they’ say how it has to be done. You will probably have more success. I lost over 30 pounds gently over 5 months. And hen lost my mom, had to move everything and deal with everything etc. now I’m back to 45 seconds. And finally losing weight again. But adding in the thyroid changes to see if it helps.

Nope fasting does nothing for me. Fasting is almost second nature for me and I definitely don’t over eat in my eating window. I watch some people eat a lot and never gain weight. I’m trying to get back in the gym despite my fibro and try this thing again. Likely won’t fast as much, I naturally do as a habit of fasting so many years.

Hey my biggest complaint is a huge tiredness after food intake. Sometimes it looks like a coma. During 13 months I ate only once after work because I couldn't have worked after lunch.I tried different food and it doesn't make any difference. Only if I eat small portions then it is a little better. I tried different digestive enzymes but they didn't help. I am currently on desiccated thyroid and my numbers are pretty good (T4/T3) but this tiredness after food just killing me. Anyone has the same problem? Any leads and directions are appreciated

Even if I cut my carbs and eat less and exercise more while doing it 😭 I also have an endomorph body type so does that have anything to do with it? I've started intermitted fasting back in March 2022 suggested by my primary physician and endocrinologist. I've lost 30 pounds and kept it off since. But, it seems that my weight has plateau in the last year even with strict fasting. I also do zone 2 training (walking) and converted over to OMAD (One meal a day). Weight is slowly coming off, but it seems like i'm entering another plateau after 6 months. My thyroid history: Thyroid removed due to thyroid cancer (Dec 2017). 150mg of Lev daily. It took a loooooong time to lose weight until I started Intermitted fasting. On top of this, I hit the gym 3-4 times a week doing moderate weight training exercises for 45 minutes; with 20min of stair master work on levels 4-7 post workout. I've talked with my endocrinologist recently about my weight plateau and he told me about Liraglutide (Saxenda) injections. I told him that I wanted to see if I can lose weight naturally and would wait til my next appointment in 5 months to see how much I can lose. My average weight since I had my thyroid removed has been in the 248 pound range; with the lowest at 238. I started off my weight at hitting the 280 back in Dec 2017. I want to lose more weight because it's now affecting my knees because of the excessive amount of weight I still have. Any recommendations or ideas is appreciated. It's been a very hard journey beating cancer; as well as losing weight for me. I'm in remission for the past 4 years.

What about for those of us without a thyroid? I have Graves but do not have a thyroid. My FT3 and FT4 are optimal, I have been intermittent fasting for a year, and my weight has not changed a bit in that time. I eat lean protein and low carbs. I believe I have insulin resistance or a cortisol issue, but cannot get anyone to help. All I hear is exercise and eat more protein. I exercise (targeted areas) a minimum of 6 days a week and walk 2.5 to 3km a day wearing steel toed shoes. I don’t see my endo for a few months yet. I am at a loss as what to do. I am 30 pounds heavier than I was before Graves and 20 pounds heavier than I was while hyper. Something else is up and nothing can be figured out. All my lab results are good except for an ALP that is stuck in the same spot. I tried Berberine but it interfered with my Synthroid and my Frees dropped quite a bit. I stopped taking it and they went back to their usual spot. I’m close to being over weight for my height. I have never been there my entire life. It’s affecting my mental health. :( It’s getting to the point where I have to try to find someone to give me Ozempic or similar.

@@DancesWithWolves222…thank you.❤ It is comforting to know it’s not just me. I’m sorry that you’re going through all of this too. I’m not gaining which I guess is the only thing good. I’m not losing though no matter what I do. My naturopath thinks it’s a cortisol issue but I have no symptoms of it other than the belly fat that won’t go away. My upper body is perfectly fine. It’s toned and has no fat. It’s the mid-section. I have even gotten the tummy fat frozen off with CoolSculpting. It’s worked for a bit then the fat comes back. The exercises I’m doing now would have had me in tip top shape not all that long ago. Now they do nothing at all. It’s so frustrating. I am headed towards depression. I’m ashamed to go out. I’m having dreams about it. Even when I was hyper (immeasurably high FT3) I was 10 pounds heavier than I was pre-Graves. I didn’t gain any on methimazole until I had been on it for 6 months. I was on such a low dose (5mg a day). So something is definitely up. All my labs are really good save for the stalled ALP. I just had them done a little over a week ago. I don’t know how much longer I can take this. I see my GP in 5 weeks and will be asking for Ozempic or similar. I’ll pay for it if I have to. I may even go online and see if I can get a prescription that way. I have diabetes in my family and don’t want that to happen to me. Please update me on your condition and I’ll do the same. Thank you again

Since the beginning of this year, I’ve had four flares, thus am bed bound presently. Maybe if I could lose weight, I’d have more control over this stupid MS. I’m ready for Ozempic…what do you think? Not, this time, my eye lid on same eye has fallen all the way. lol have to have strabismus adjustment again, but the ocular plastic surgeon this time, in Phoenix, wants to try just stitching the ends of both eyes to raise them where they meet, rather than full surgery to raise them again. If you have a thyroid issue, you likely have an adrenal issue, if you have adrenal issues, then is fasting the best thing ? I'm not saying it can't be done, i do it, but it becomes a little more complex and needs a gentle approach until you test what the body can handle. Do the benefits outweight the risks ? Probably, but if you push too hard the outcome can lead to a big crash.

Are you kidding? 20-25mcg of T3 is way too high. Taking T3 if your levels are already in range is asking for trouble. It can damage your muscles, heart and bones, and really is not the hormone specific for weight loss and metabolism regulation. It can also shoot your cortisol levels up. 100 mcg of T2 is safe, turns white fat into brown fat used to burn for energy, it is good for the liver and heart and muscles. It works well for the right people and results are steady. It works WITH a good health plan and moderate exercise. You really should take this down or correct your T3 comment. T3 is very strong and counterproductive for metabolic health.
